Colts Again
Win Huron -Perth Title
(By RSA)
Clinton Colts played their best
defensive ball of the season to
defeat Lucan Irish Nine 3-2,
clinch'first',place, and capture, for
the fourth straight season, the
Supertest Shield., emblematic of
the Huron -Perth, Baseball Lea-
gue ehampiorisii'ip. The' Clinton-
ians played errorless ba11 to do it.
Playdowns will decide the
teem which survives elimination;
win the Venus Trophy, and 'thus
earns the right. to proceed fur-
ther it the' OBA Intermediaite
"C" series for a provincial title.
Colts captured both trophies iii
1948, and subsequently were
eliminated by Caledonia for the
championship itself.
Smart Game of Ball
The battle between Colts and
Lucan at Lucan Friday evening
last, was every inch a struggle
between two able and extremely
well-matched.a-eams. Their pley-
down . seri.es; should be a hum-
dinger. Lucan's one -run lead in
the first dirt not last, as Colts
knocked in two in the first of
the second en :singles by Powell
and Miller, a lgng fly to centre
field by Draper;'and a three -bag-
ger by Woodcock. "They added
one in .the seventh on Miller's
single followed by Bili'. Craig's
triple to deep left. •
The Lucanites were"•dongerous
at all times, especially -in the
latter stages. Fred Revingtoil
started off the seventh with a
beautiful homer to deep left in
back of a house, but he failed to
touch second on his way around
and' was celled out by the base
umpire,. However, he was given
a safe hit for his troubles, Argu-
ment ensued and this delayed
the game. about•• l5. minutes, with
shouts of "protest being heard.
However, Lankin, the next
batter, singled, went .to Seeond on
a, wild pitch, and tallied on Mc-
Roberts? double. Chown was
walked deliberately. Pitcher Ball
flied out to Neilans is left, but
when McRoberts streaked for
home after the fly was caught,
Neilank made a perfect peg to
catcher Colquhoun who tagged
the runner with plenty to spare.
It was a good play.
Draper, Woodcock end Bill
Craig were three easy outs in
the first of the ninth.
In the last of the 9th, Handel
popped to 3rd, and Hodgnis walk-
ed,, Sovekreign, batting Jfor H
Revington, singled, F. Reving-
ton's fielder's choice resulted in
Hodgins being forced at 3rd,
Bartliff to Woodcock, for the
second out, Then Draper delib-
erately walked Lankin, the lead-
off man, filling the bases, and
Jmade Hearn pop to Woodcock
for the third out to finish the
game,

Clinton Victory
Management of the Lucan
Baseball Club has protested
Clinton Colts' 3-2 victory et
Lucan Friday evening last on
the following grounds: (1) That
the umpires were incompetent;
(2) That the base umpire was
in error in calling out player
Fred Revington of Lucan in the
seventh inning for failing to
touch second base.
The protest will be heard at
an executive meeting of the
Huron -Perth Baseball League
tomorrow evening.
Inridentally, if Celts win at
Dashwood tonight and again at
home with Goderich tomorrow
night, hearing of the protest
could have no effect whatever
on the final standing of the
Colts and Lucan,

LONDESBORO
AND BENMILLER
HAVE TWO EACH
Londesboro B -A's travelled
over' .to. Benmiller on Monday
night end handed them a 12-10
defeat to tie up the series with
two games each and making a
fifth game necessary to determine
the winner of group 5 in the
WOAA. Intermediate "C" soft-
ball series.
The B -A's grabbed a three -run
lead hi the first inning but' lost
this in the third when Benmiller
tied things up. From then on, it
was really a fight to the finish
with Benmiller earning four runs
in the last of the sixth, one of
these being a homer by Westlake.
The B -A's staged a rally in the
eighth getting six runs across
the plate. Lee banged out a
homer with two men on in this
inning. ;,
Things looked bad in the ninth
when Benmiller got two runs in
and two men on bases before the
side was retired. Floor went all
the way for the B -A's whereas
Fisher and Westlake shared the
pitching duties for Benmiller,
