OBITUARY
T. D. HOLLOWAY
Following a funeral service at
Maryfield, Sask., on Monday,
August 1, 1949, the body of the
late Thomas Dodds Holloway was
brought to Clinton where a fun-
eral service was held at the
home of his mother, Mrs. A. J',
Holloway, Whitehead St., on Fri-
day, August 5. Interment fol-
lowed • in the family plot an
Clinton Cemetery.
Rev. Et M. P. Bulteel of St.
Paul's Anglican Church, officiat-
ed at the Clinton services. Pall-
bearers were John A. Sutter,
Fred 0. Ford, Harry Bartliff, G.
B. Davies, G. D. Roberten, all
of • Clinton, and John Gibbings,
Stratford. Flower bearers were
Ha; R. Kiliy, Toronto; Wilbur
Foie, London; W. J. Plumsted,
D.; A. Kay, W. L. Johnson and
Benson Sutter, all of Clinton.
At the graveside, Clinton Lodge
A.F. end A.M. No. 84 conducted
the Use rite s of the Masonic
order with Wor. Bro. M. J. Agnew
in charge.
Mr. Holloway was born in
Clinton, on July 17, 1891, the
only son of Agnes Dodds Hollo-
way and the late Albert J.
Holloway. He received, his edu-
cation in the Clinton schools,
and at the age of 17 joined the
local branch of the Royal Bank
of Canada. Be served at various
places throughout Ontario and
about 25 years ago was transfer-
red to Saskatchewan where he
had continued to reside. At the
time of his death Mr. Holloway
was manager of the Royal Bank
at Maryfield, Sask., where he had
been stationed for the past 11
years.
While stationed at Sault Ste.
Marie, Ontario, Mr. Holloway
enlisted for active service in
World War I, -serving with the
Canadian forces overseas. For
many years Mr. Holloway had
been active ira the Masonic Lodge
and was, an *active member of
•
the Moosomin, Sask., Lodge, of
which he was a past master, at
the time of his death. In re-
ligion he was an Anglican.
Although suffering from a
heart condition for About two
years Mr. Holloway had been
able to attend to his regular
duties till a couple of days be-
fore his death which occurred
quite suddenly at his home in
Maryfield, on Friday, July 29.
In Regina, in September 1937,
Mr. Holloway was united in
marriage with Katherine Morris-
on, Fleming, Sask., who sur-
vives, as well as his mother, Mrs.
A. J. Holloway, Clinton. Mr.
Holloway was predeceased by
his father, A. J. Holloway, and
one sister, Hattie, Mrs. Isaac
Rattenbury.
MRS. WILLIAM RATHWELL
Another of the old residents
of Stanley Township. passed
away on Tuesday, July 26, 1949,
in Windeor, in the person of Mrs.
William Rathwell, in her 92nd
year.
Deceased, whose maiden name
was Mary Ann Reid, was a dau-
eater of 'the late Robert and
Margaret Reid. She was born
in Stanley and had spent Most
of her life in her native Town-
ship. She was married to her
late husband in 1883 and he pre-
deceased her in 1919. Her three
children, Stella, Mrs. A. Elliott,
Windsor; Edith, Mrs. S. Derby-
shire, Southwold; and Charles
Rathwell, Varna, also predeaceas-
ed her,
She leaves to mourn her loss
three grandchildren and four
great grandchildren; ialso two
ssiters, Mrs. It. J. Woods, Luck -
now, and Mrs, John Woods, Mel -
fort, Sask.
The funeral service was held
in Varna United Church, on Fri-
day, July 29, with Rev. Reba
Hera officiating, Interment fol-
lowed in Bayfield Cemetery.

Shown after their marriage was solemnized in the parsonage
of Dungannon United Church recently, are MR. AND MIS.
WILLIAM CHARLES DONALD PICKARD. The bride, form-
erly Ruth Elizabeth Nivins, is the daughter of Mrs. Nivins,
West Wawanosh Township, and the late William Nivins. The
groom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. William Pickard, Dundee. The
couple are residing in Clinton after a trip to Niagara Falls.

Relatives were present from
Windsor, Point Edward, Guelph,
Galt and Lucknow.
MRS. G. M. FARQUHAR
After a lengthy illness, there
entered into rest on Wednesday,
August 3, in Stanley Township,
Margaret Ellen Straughan, wife
of the late George M. Farquhar,
in her 82nd year.
Deceased was born in Colborne
Township, the youngest daughter
of the late Edward end Isabelle
Straughan. After her marriage
she resided in Hullett Township
till the death of her husband,
when she moved to Clinton. For
the past 15 years she had made
her home wall her daughter,
Elsie, Mrs. Joseph Clegg.
A younger daughter. Jean,
Mrs. A. L. Eagleson, Oklahoma
City; two sons, Edward, Hullett
Township, end Mervyn, Dearborn,
Mich., and a brother, Albert
Straughan, AltadenaCalif., sur-
vive. Two other children. Laura
and Howard, predeceased her
some years ago.
The funeral service which was
held at the Ball and Mutch Fun-
eral Home, High St., Clinton, on
Saturday, August 6, wee conduct-
ed by Rev. H. C. Wilson of Wes-
ley -Willis United Church of
which Mrs. Farquhar was a mem-
ber. Pallbearers were Douglas
Farquhar, Reg. and Clarence
Ball, Gerald Holmes, Terry Jack-
son and Dick Randall. Flower -

Dr, and Mrs. J. C. Goddard,
Beth and Peggy, are vacationing
for two weeks at Wasaga Beach,
Mrs. Gordon Schwalm was the
lucky winner of a 626 Target
Brownie Camera and a roll of
film, in a contest sponsored by a
photo studio at Crystal Beach.
Mrs. John Little, Exeter, who
with her husband and two little
sons, Jackie and Dennis, had an
apartment with Mr. and Mrs. J.
E. 1VIcEwan, left Saturday morn-
ing by bus and train for the
West where she will spend a
month visiting her parents.
Undergoes Operation.
Bob Bennett, son of Mr. and
Mrs. George Bennett, was oper-
ated on In Clinton Public Hos-
pital Friday night for append-
icitis, end is doing nicely.
Doctor Sells Home
W. B. Cross has purchased the
home' of Dr. J. A. McLean, who
recently received an appoint-
ment on the staff of the Hospi-
tal for Sick Children, Toronto.
Ilensall Polio Suspect
A five-year-old Hensel girl
was one of three cases of suspect-
ed poliomyelitis admitted to Vic-
toria Hospital, London, over the

Miss Marie Glidden spent a
few days in Toronto visiting her
sister. Eileen returned home

Mrs. Harry Williams is a Pa-
tient in Clinton Public Hospital,
having undergone an operation.
Her many friends wish her a
speedy recovery.

Fair Dates Confirmed
Some confusion still exists
over the dates chosen for Blyth
Fall Fair this year. The fair
was originally slated to be held
September 7 and 8 next, but
circumstances forced a change
and the annual event was ad-
vanced one day so that the fair
will be held on Tuesday and
Wednesday, September 6 and 7.

Newlyweds Honored
The regular meeting of Trinity
Church Guild, Blyth, was held
at the home of Mrs. A. Quinn,
concession three, East Wawanosh,
Thursday afternoon, July 28, with
22 present.
The president, Mrs. J. B. Wat-
son, presided and a after the
usual routine business, the rec-
tor, Rev. G. Murray Wyatt and
his bride were honored with the
gift of a beautiful tri -light lamp.
Mrs. Quinn read an address
signed on behalf of the Guild
and congregation, expressing the
good wishes of Trinity Church
to Mr. and Mrs. Wyatt, for hap-
piness and prosperity. Miss
Josephine Woodcock presented
the gift.
Mr. and Mrs. Wyatt thanked
their friends for their kindness
and thoughtfulness on their be-
half. A. delightful lunch was
served by the women.
Lions Raise $1,404
The financial results of Blyth
Lions Club's fifth annual frolic
in Agricultural Park were term-
ed satisfactory, with total receipts
of $2,119 and net of $1,404.

Taken to Hospital
Ross Dick, Stanley Township,
was taken to Clinton Public Hos-
pital on Friday in Bonthron's
ambulance with a serious heart
condition. His many friends
hope for a speedy recovery.
Mr. and Mrs. D H. Peacock
and Terry, Ottawa, left Saturday,
July 30, for Los Angeles, Calif,
for a three weeks' vacation.
Mrs. Grace Harpole, Hensall,
mother of Mrs. Peacock, accomp-
anied them as far as Nebo, Ill.,
where she will visit relatives.
The trip was made by motor.
