TAKE CENTRALIA
LOSE AT LUCAN
Clinton RCAF came from be-
hind to capture their first victory
of the season in the Huron -Perth
Baseball League when they nosed
out Centralia RCAF 9-8 in a six -
inning match here Thursday
evening last. They lost at Lucan
last night 10-4.
It was a loosely played game
with the visitors amassing a big
lead and then not being able to
hold it. Centralia had run the
count up to 8-2 in the first half
of the fifth, but the Clintonians
came to life in the Past half with
six tallies to tie the score.
Three pop flies retired the
visitors in the first half of the
sixth.
In, the last half of the sixth,
which had been announced byte
umpires as the last, Markham,
the first man up, singled and
stole second, and then bounded
home when Schneider was safe
on Catrano's low wide throw to
first. It was the winning run
with none out and was a little on
the "cheap" side.
Coach Holdershaw of Clinton
RCAF -was ordered out of the ball
park in the fourth for arguing
an umpire's decision. He was re-
placed at first by Schneider.
Jacque and Murphy shared
pitching duties for Clinton. Her-
mann went the route for Cent-
ralia Airmen.

LEADS LEAGUE
RCAF 2—ETHEL 2
(By P.O.J.)
Despite the superior soccer
played by the Air Force team
they were only able to share
league points with Ethel in the
game played on Wednesday night.
In the first minute of the game
Ethel broke through the home
defence and scrambled a very
lucky goal, The Airmen retal-
iated strongly and five minutes
later equalized from a lovely 25 -
yard drive by Springate, leen
minutes from the end of the first
half Carr, playing at outside left,
put the Airmen ahead through
a pass from Jones.
Half-time score: RCAF 2 —
Ethel 1.
During the second half num-
erous scoring chances were mis-
sed by the RCAF team and ten
minutes from final time they were
very fortunate when a defence
misunderstanding pertnitted Ethel
to equalize. Though the Airmen
tried hard for another goal they
were unsuccessful.
RCAF: Child, Thorndycrnft,
Bunte, Springate, Dawson, Gur-
nett, Rowland, Dutton, Jones,
Hindson, Carr, Subs: Gemmell
nd Sparks.
RCAF 0—WALTON 0
(By P.O,J.)
Nearly 400 spectators turned
ut on Monday night when Wal -
on acted as hosts to the RCAF
linton soccer team. A large
ropertion of the ay
lied from Brussels so ters t
that t y
ight support Airmen,
The Airmen found it very dif-
cult to settle down in the first
if and were very fortunate that
alton did not score. Credit must
given to the RCAF defence
or their stalwart effort. Haif-
e score: Walton 0—RCAF 0.
The same ding -long battle per-
sted in the second half; however,
e RCAF were most unlucky
hen three beautiful opportun-
es were missed. When the
nal whistle blew neither team
d been successful in scoring,
espite this lack of goals the
pporters were unanimous in
reclaiming that it had been most
tertaining from the onlooker
ndpoint. Final score: Walton 0
—RCAF 0.
