With the count tied 2.2, B • Craig, the first man up, walke Neilans flied to -left field. Bi "Blondie" Cook rapped a high one to centre, but the fielder mi sed the ball end Craig made t home plate easily to end th match with one down. Howey Cook kept on going and Crosse the plate, too, but the run di not count. Lucan Scores Early Colts spotted the visitors tw in the first frame whe the first man up, singled, and romped home on Chowen's homer to left with two out. That's all the Irish were able to get, although' they had runners on third in the third, fourth and sixth. The locals did not reach first until the fourth, against the fine twirling of 17 -year-old George Appleton of Lucan, backed by excellent support, The first eleven batters did not register, including five strikeouts, but the 12th, Art Woodcock, singled for the first Colt safe hit of the season. It was Clarence Nauru' hom- er in the fifth with none out and the one that put our Colts in the running, but the next three batters all flied out. In the seventh, Neilans again came through with a triple to Left centre with two out and romped home from Third on Cook's single. The veteran Gordon Stock pitched six frames and Bob Drap- er for three, Manager Hugh teawkins came in as a hit- r for Bob Miller withrnch two out in the seventh, but grounded out et first. Sixteen -year-old Jack Wilson made his debut at short- stop, and banged out a single. It was an excellent game of ball for the first of the season, and the fair crowd on hand, despite threatening drizzles, vot- ed it just that. This score was in team competition, not in singles. AIRMEN LOSE FIRST BASEBALL LEAGUE MATCH Clinton RCAF lost its opening game in the Huron -Perth Base- ball League Tuesday morning when the Airmen went down to defeat 10-9 before Mitchell Can- adian Legion. Portsider Whitey" Malche on the mound for Mitchell, allowed only five safe hits, A good crowd and while the attend- ance, eatherdid not look too favorable et the be- ginning of the game, it cleared up after a few showers. The stand -out play of the game was in the ninth inning when Wilson Brintnell of Mitchell made a double play to end the game. COLTS DEFEAT STRATHROY TEAM IN EXHIBITION Clinton Colts captured their second victory of the holiday when they defeated Strathroy Dodgers 4-2 in an exhibition base- ball match before a good crowd in the Mi ddlesex town Tuesday afternoon, • These teams—with almost the same personnel—met in the OBA Intermediate "C" semi-finals last fall, Colts eliminating the Dodg- ers in three games. It was a good game of ball with few miscues for so early in the season. Bob' Craig twirled for Clinton for 7 2/3 innings when Doug Bertliff tried his hand a mound duties, making a fair job of it, Butler tossed them over for Strathroy.
