John McGregor, president, and the• meeting open- ed with the Lord's Prayer, re- peated in unison. The secretary's' and treasurer's reports were giv- en and 17 members answered the roll call. • An interesting business discussion took place on ways and means of malting money and spending it. Mrs, Broadfoot gave a reading and Mrs, John. Mc- Gregor conducted contests, Mrs. George Cantelon entertained with piano solos which were enjoyed by all, The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. John H. Addison, Clinton, and be- sides catching some beauties, they also killed a rattlesnake. YPU Services Next Sunday, May 29, the YPU, are holding their anniversary ser- vices. The speaker will be E. McLagan, Mitchell, a student who is going to train for the ministry. Special music will be under the direction of the organist and the Y.P. choir will sing. TUCKERSMITH Ladies' Club to Meet The June meeting of Tucker - smith Ladies' Club will, be held at the home of Mrs. William Pep- per on Wednesday, June •1. The roll call will be answered with the name of "your favorite flow- ers". Connell Act's James Love and Arthur Fin- layson, Township auditors, pre- sented their report for the year 1948 and were paid their salaries of $120 each. This audit covered all books of the various schools throughout the Township and the Tucke'rsmith Municipal Telephone System, as well as Township books and the clerk was authorized to bill the Telephone System for $40, School Area for $50, S.5. No. 3 and 10 for $10 each, for costs in connection with same. Seeforth Agricultural Society was given a grant of $100 and Hensall Show a grant of $25. The Hydro Electric Power Commission of Ontario requested location of poleline from their power station on Lot 5, Conces- sion 1, H.R,Se to Highway 8, and same was granted. The treas- urer was authorized to pay Hydro accounts when rendered in order to take advantage of the discount. Accounts paid were as follows: relief, $80.90; fox bounty, $11; poultry killed by dogs, $14,80; salaries, $265; postage, $5.88. 4, at 8 p.m, Council adjourned to meet June PORTER'S HILL The monthly meeting of Por- ter's Hill Community Club was held ort Wednesday afternoon, May 18, at the home of Mrs. Goerge Colclough. The president, Mrs. J. A. Torrance, was in charge of the meeting, which opened by repeating the Lord's Prayer in unsion. The roll call was an- swered by naming your birthday. The secretary and treasurer's re- ports were read and adopted. During the business discussion it was voted and carried that each member donate $1 at the June meeting instead of having a homemade baking sale et the present time. Plans also were made for a community picnic to be held during the summer. Short readings were given by Mary Torrance and Mrs. Donald Harris. The remainder of the afternoon was spent quilting after which the hostess served, a delicious lunch. The next meet- ing will be at the home of Mrs. Maurice Frame. HENSALL Lae, Herb, and Ron Hedden, spent the weekend visiting re- latives in St. Catharines and Ham- ilton. Mrs. J. Pfaff is visiting this week with members of her family in London. Scott Welsh is erecting e fine new residence on the lot next to C. Cooper's. Mr, and Mrs. Erwin Bestard, Grand Bond, were Sunday guests with Mrs. Mary Buchanan and Lloyd. Miss Violet McClymont, mho has been a patient in Clinton Hospital, was taken on Saturday last to Victoria Hospital, London. Ronald McKinnon who has been a patient at Victoria Hospital, London, for the past month, re- turned to his home Sunday last. . Pupils of the public school under direction of Sam Ronnie will present a concert in the Un- ited church Thursday evening, June 2. Mr. and Mrs. Geprge Walker spent the weekend in Toronto with members of their family, their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. G. Gould, and little daughter Diane, are leaving short_ ly for Florida. Mrs. W. Carlile has,returned home after visiting wither son- in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. 3. F. Stokes, London, their little daughter, Beverley two years old, had the misfortune to fracture her shoulder, the result of a fall outside her home. Ilk in hospital The many friends of Mrs. T.
