Colts and RCAF
Open en Season May 24
Clinton Colts and Clinton RCAF
are all set for the opening of the
Huron -Perth Baseball League
season on Tuesday next, May 24,
when Colts entertain Lucan Irish
Nine here at 1n a.m.,and the
Airmen go to Mitcehll for a game
at 10,30 a.m.
Both teams have been working
out steadily for the past fortnight
or more in preparation for the
long summer grind of 18 league
games each.
Hawkins Manager
Although he announced at the
first of the season that he would
not act as manager this year,
Hugh Hawkins has been persuad-
ed to take over the job he• did
so well last year when Colts
went .into the OBA Intermediate
"C" finals. Gordon Stock is coach,
and Gordon Bennett has been
giving a little assistance, too.
Here is the line-up of poten-
tial material:
Catchers: Blondie Cook, Laurie

for the engraved plaques 1948-49
season, found the following win-
ners: Men's high single donated
by Clinton Bowling Alley, Bob
Carrick, 380; ladies' high single
donated by Clinton Bowling Al-
ley, Shirley Hattin, 337; men's
high triple donated by Hotel Clin-
ton, Ed. Steep, 890; ladies' high
triple donated by Dixon's Pastry

Men's Banquet
Thursday, May 12, Clinton
Men's Bowling Leegue heId its
annual bowling banquet at Hotel
Clinton. After presentation of
prizes, election of officers for the
1949-50 season took place. Fred
MacDonaId was named president,
Hal Hartley, secretary -treasurer,
Joe Cooper, James Wilson, How-
ard Grealis, committee members.
A discussion took place on some
new departures for next season
in the way of team make-up,
to be stronger than last year,
with a wealth of material avail-
able. The Airmen are playing the
fast Listowel team in an exhibi-
tion game at Listowel tonight,
'which may give some idea of
their ability. "Lefty" Holdershaw
Is again coach of the teem.
Here is the way they line up
at the. • present time:
Catchers: "Wally" Walsh, a
veteran of many campaigns, Al
Murray; pitchers: Don Robert-
son, from last year; Lionel Jacque,
a right hander who played in
Quebec Senior League lest year;
"Bud" Lidwell, the only south-
paw; Fit. Cadet Richardson and
Flt. Cadet Law, two rfghhanders; the youngster from playing ball
for at least eight weeks.
Winners of weekly prizes for
high ' singles in the first two
weeks of May were: Olive Car-
ter, 297; Helen Fairservice, 321;
Bob Carrick, Jr., 329; Gordon
MacGregor, 319.
BALL PLAYER HURT
Charlie Seymour, 19, Exeter,
was injured at an exhibition hard
ball game in Exeter. He is the
catcher for the Exeter team and
while sliding to second he injur-
ed his ankle. Dr. J. G. Dunlop at-
tended him and the x-rays taken
showed a broken bone just above
the ankle. This injury will kee

The soccer team of Clinton
RCAF Station will play its first
game in the Huron League on
Wednesday evening, May 25. The
kick-off is scheduled for 7,30
o'clock and the place is the RCAF
Sports Field. Citizens of town
are urged to support their local
tetani.

Defeat Seaforth Twice
Clinton Public School girls
severely trounced Seaforth Pub
lic School girls on the latter'
home field on Tuesday, May 1
to the tune of 53-11 and repeated
the same performance in Clinton
on Tuesday, May 17, the score
then being 38-9.
