Huller on Tuesday with Mrs. H. Cudmore in charge of the pro- gram, After the opening hymn, Mrs. E. J. Trewartha ledin pray- er. The Scripture lesson was read by Mrs, C. Wilson, .and was fol- lowed by a reading, "Keeping the Lord's Day," by the leader, The first part of the third chapter of the Study Book (Doctors old and new) was given by Mrs. H. 3. Trewartha, l,Irs. Welter read a letter from the secretary of Christian Stewardship. An interesting reading, "The Church's work with immigrants," was given by Mrs. Heard, after which Mrs. E. Potter and Mrs. E. 'Grigg favored with a duett, "The Lord is my Shopperd." A splendid report of the Predby- terial recently held in Hensall, was given by the delegates, Mrs. George Coldough and Miss Molly Finlay. A vote of thanks was extended to the delegates by Mrs. Tavener. Mrs. D. J. Lane, Clinton, has been seemed las speaker for the WMS Thankoffering on June 5. The meeting closed with the Miz-. Pah Benediction. The WA meeting followed, and was opened by singing a verse of hymn 123, after which the Lord's Prayer was repeated in unison. After a short business period, the last verse of hymn 123 was sung, and Rev. C. Tav- ener closed with prayer. A lovely lunch was served by the hostesses Mrs. J. Huller end Mrs. N. Heard. The occasion was a farewell and presentation, to Mrs, Esther East, who$w marriage takes place shortly.' A reminiscence was reed by Mrs, Chester Farquhar and a beautiful china teapot was' presented by Mrs. George Cor- bett on behalf of the ladies, A very dainty lunch served by the hostess brought a pleasant after- noon to a close. Taylor, Paul and Bruce left Saturday for Medicine Hat, Alta., to visit Mrs. Taylor's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Hilborn. Thanks for Grants Blyth Legion expressed apprec- iation for .substantial grants' to Bride -Elect Feted Friends and neighbours of Mrs. Esther East gathered in the Or- ange Lodge rooms, Clinton, to present her with a gift prior to her marriage, which takes place the middle of May. The even- ing was spent with cards and dancing. Before lunch, Mrs. East was called to the platform and Mrs. T. Leppington presented her with a silver tea service. Age of Pupils A special meeting of Blytie Public School Board was held to decide the age at which children may be enrolled at Blyth Public Mrs. G. Gould and little daugh- ter Diane, Toronto, visited with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. Walker. Mrs, C. L. Jinks left Wednes- day last for Rapid City, S.D., to spend some weeks with her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. August Peterson, who are both vary ill. Mrs. Jinks took the plane from Windsor. Building Starts Soon The May meeting of the Cham- ber of Commerce was held in the Town Hall, Tuesday evening, May 10. President R. H. Middle- ton was chairman. Discussion and plans were made on community building and materiels are ex- pected in the very near future when construction will be start- ed. It was decided to hold the next meeting at Rau's Lodge on the Blue Water Highway Wed- nesday, June 8, when election of officers will take place. Hensall WI Meets With "Citizenship" as its theme, Hensall Women's Institute held a successful monthly meeting' in the United Church school room, Wednesday night, May 11, with president Mrs. F. Beer in the L'hair. Mrs. J. A. Paterson and Mrs. A. D. McEwan were host- esses. Roll call "My contribution to the making of a good citizen." During the business session the president announced that Mrs. Dinnin has kindly invited the In- stitute to hold their annual picric at her home, the date Wednes- day, June 8. Mrs. A. Mousseau will look after tables. Luncheon committee: Mrs. H. W. Horton, Mrs. J. Sangster, Mrs. W. Parke, Mrs. W. Smote. Mrs. E. Norm- inton and Mrs. L Chapman were named sports conveners. In the absence of Mrs. Orr, district rep- resentative, her report of the district meeting at Mrs, R. Elgie's was presented by Miss 'Gladys Luker, The district annual will be held et Crediton Friday, June 3, commencing at 10 e.m. (DST). Miss A. Spencer will be guest speaker. Mrs. Beer, Mrs. Munn, Mrs. Mousseau will be voting delegates, while Mrs. Elgie, Mrs. Paterson and other members will attend. The motto "Know the past to make us better builders of the future" was given by Miss M. Ellis. The guest speaker, Rev. H. Mahoney, Exeter, ably dealt with the subject "Citizenship," in which he stressed the following essentials of good citizenship: (1) Appreciation of Historical beck - ground; (2) Develop the sense of vision; (3) Discipline. Mrs. R. Elgie presented a de- monstration on "Flags of the British Empire." Mrs. A. Moir, Hurondale, who attended the of- ficers convention in Guelph May 5 and 6, outlined the highlights. Mrs. Earl Mitchell favoured with a reading, and Rev. Mr. Mahoney contributed several accordien sel- ections'. Refreshments were served. Goderich Township Mr. and Mrs. John H, McEwen and Stuart McEwen spent Sun- day with Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Middleton. Mr. and Mrs. Phil Heitbohiner, George and Neva spent the week- end at "Cedar Hollow," their Lane O'Pines Beach cottage. Mr. and Mrs, George Woods, Miss Beverley Woods, Royal Cooley, Detroit, spent the week- end at their summer home at Lane O'Pines 'Beach. Mr, and Mrs. Cecil Merkley, with their guests, Miss Dorothy Piper, Roy Manuel, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hall, Mr, and Mrs. How- ard Fuller, all of Wingham, spent Sunday at the former's summer hone at Lane O'Pines Beach. Farm Changes Hands Stanley Stewartson, Arkone, has purchased the fine farm on Highway No. 8, 21/2 miles west of town belonging to W. Brock Thompson, and gets immediate possession. Mr. Thompson bought the farm about three years ago from Fred L. Potter. Mr. and Mrs. Thompson have taken up residence in Sarnia. Community Club Meets The S. S. No. 4 Community Club met on Wednesday, May 11, at the hone of Mrs: Stewart Farquhar, with Mrs. W. Forbes in charge. The meeting was opened by repeating the Lord's Prayer in unison. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and adopted. A letter of thanks from Mrs. F. Sloman of the School -Car of Capreol, was read. A box of clothing and two new quilts had been sent north during the win- ter. The treasurer's report wes read which showed e balance of $77.34 on hand. The roll call was "Our yearly fee," and was responded to by 13 members and there was one visitor present. Following the business discus- sion, the meeting was closed with the Mizpah. Benediction. A bounti- ful lunch was served at the close of the meeting, A gift donated by Mrs. C. Tebbutt, was won by Mrs. S. Farquhar. The meeting next month will be held et the home of Mrs. Ira Merrill.
