THOMAS PRYDE
OFFICIALLY OPENS
HOSPITAL WING
(Continued from Page One)
Who had made the new bui'ld'ing
possible and commented that a
great deal of •work had been done,
During the past few years, the
building of any structure of this
kind had been a very hazardous
undertaking. The members of
the Board end the staff had given
of their • time and energies un-
selfishly and a debt of gratitude
was owed thein.
This is a community effort,
for ell the community, not just
for Clinton, but also for the stir
rounding townships and villages,"
he said. A total of $57,000 had
been received in grants, $11,000
from subscriptions toward the
building, end $8,400 toward
equipment and furnishings, in-
cluding $2,000 by the Hospital
Aid. The ladies of the Hospital
Aid were to be congratulated on
their part, he said.
Mr, Pryde was of the opinion
that there would be a continued
demand for hospital accommoda-
tion onaccount of the various
hospitalization plans in effect.
He paid special tribute to Dr. J.
W. Shaw, Clinton's veteran medi-
cal practitioner, now 87, whom
he described as 'the grand old
man of the medical profession in
Huron County."
The crowd filed inside the
building where the reception line
included Dr. and Mrs, W. A.
Oakes, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas
Pryde; Mrs. Frank FingLand,
president, and Mrs. L. M. Mc-
Kinnon, past president, Hospital
Aid; and Miss Annette Sinclair,
superintendent of the Hospital.
Mr. Pryde cut the tape between
the old building and the new
wing, to open formally the lat-
ter, at the same time declaring
the wing officially open,
Plaque Dedication
Rev. D. J. Lane, minister of
Clinton Presbyterian Church,
formally dedicated a plaque In
memory of former Clintonians,
the unveiling ceremony being
carried out by Dr. J. W. Shaw.
Members of the public were
escorted through the hospital, and
refreshments were served.
