CHARLES C. PILGRIM
Funeral service were largely
attended at the Ball and Muteh
Funeral Home, High St„ Clinton,
on Sunday, May 1, 1949, for Char-
les C Pilgrim..Rev. Reba,Hern
officiated and interment follow-
ed in ;Sairll's Cemetery. At the
graveside L.O.L. leo. 1035, Varna,
Concluded its rites.
Pallbearers, all members of the
Orange' Order,'were John llIcAsh,
Ed. Foster, William Rowson, Dav-
id Anderson, Thomas Stinson and
Elmer Webster. Flower bearers
were five grandsons, Edward,
'William and Murray East, William
Pilgrim and Harold Barnes, and
a son -in -jaw, Wesley Bunking,
Friends' and relatives present
for the funeral were from Toro-
nto, Pontiac, Mich., Detroit Mich
ing communities.
Charles Oeedle Pilgrim was
born in Guelph on February 12,
1864, a son of the late John Pil-
grim and Lucy Keating, both nat-
ives of England. Mr. Pilgrim came
to Varna about 50 years ago where
he had since resided.
By trade, Mr. Pilgrim was a
tailor and faithfullyfollowed this
occupation till he retired about
ten years ago. For almost a quar-
ter of a century Mr. Pilgrim was
the faithful clerk of Stanley
Township. He had served on the
School Board for a number of
years, and for some time was
treasurer of the beef ring. Ile
was a devoted member of Varna
Lodge LOL and also was a mem-
ber of the Black Knights.
For many years he was leader

Church Union held the same
position in Varna United Church,
'retiring afew years ago. He was
a great lover of the out-of-doors,
I especially flowers; and was a
keen sports enthusiast ;and even
last summer ,wes in swimming.
In politics he Was a Liberal.
Mr. Pilgrim .had beep .,in his
usual health until the Saturday
previous to his death When he
became ill with 'pneumonia and
was taken to" Scott . Memorial
Hospital, Seeforth,' where his
death occurred on Friday morn:
ing, April '29.
On February 10, 1887, in To-
ronto, he was united in marriage
with Mary Ann Potter, who pre-
deceased him 22 years.
Surviving are three sons, Jos-
eph, Edmonton, A1ta4" Charles,
Varna; and George, Cannington;
four daughters, Beatrice, Mrs. C.
Copeland;`Cadomin, Alta,; `Marg-
ueri e, '-Mrs 'W'.' Honking, Sea-
forth; Annie Mrs. Charles East,
Auburn; Esther, Mrs, Norman
Fast, Clinton; there are 22 grand-
children and several great grand-
children.
Also surviving are two broth -
90, JWilliam. ;Brantford, and Fred,
Pontiac, Mich., and one sister,
,Sarah 1Irs. Hackett Hayden,
Brantford One son, Edwin,'' and
one daughter, Mabel, Mrs. Tool-
ey, predeceased their father.

It was with deep regret to.
many friends' and neighbors when
it was learned of the .passing of
Maude Wilson, beloved wife of
George Swan, in Scott Memorial
Hospital, Seeforth, on Wednesday,
April 27. Mrs. Swan had been in
the hospital two weeks. *Although
never in very good health, her
death came as a shock to all who
knew her.
Deceased was born in ,Clinton,
daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs,
Charles Wilson, arid was married
to George Swan in Clinton 42
years ago. Since then they have
lived most of the time in Bruce -
field, where, until his retirement
this past winter, Mr. Swan was
CNR agent,
She is survived by her hus-
band; two daughters: Mrs: Erwin
Shiite, Zurich, end Mrs. Frank
Strange; one grandchild, Kenneth
Shilbe; and three sisters: Mrs.
Frank Temperton, Windsor; Mrs.
Bert Warrington and Mrs. Fred
Duffot, Toronto.
The service was conducted
from the Beattie Funeral Home,
Clinton, on Saturday, April
at 2.30,, by her pastor, Rev. E. R,
Stanway, Brucefield. A quartette
composed of Miss Eva Stackhouse,
Mrs. J. R. Murdock, J. K. Cor-
nish and J. Snider, sang very
beautifully.
Pallbearers were Ross Scott,
Hugh Berry, Doug Ward, Gordon
Wright, C. Twitehell, W. Clement.
Flower bearers were J. McCully,
Archie Mustard, Ken Scott, George.
Knights, Tom Baird, Wally Mc -
Beath.
Interment was in Baird's Ceme-
tery.

patient in Scott Memorial Hos-
pital, Seaforth, for two weeks
prior to his'deeth.
The late Mr. Tremeer had
farmed Most his life in Tuck-
ersmith, and was a member of
Ohtselhurat United Church.

Mrs. Charles Martin, Rosseau;
Mrs. E. Whitehouse, Kippen; Miss

West.
