Team AIDS' IN :BATTLE (By our Bayfield coreesaondent) At 1.05 pen. on •Monday the wail of the fire siren was heard in Bayfield. Quickly ' and efficiently the local operator notified the key men of the Fire Brigade that Norman Stephenson's 'house on the Goshen Line was on fire. In fifteen minutes' ; time the fire truck and company were at the scene. They found that the own- er had been away at Zurich since early morning and that a neigh- bour had seen smite coming from one earner of the roof and turn- ed in the alarm. The smoke was too densie to enter the house but in abort order the cellar window was smashed in end a hose played, on they fire in the bosement where the radio and stove had fallen through the floor. This put out, the men were able to take a hose into the house while the second one wag played on the roof., The fire had run up the wall and was spreading over the roof. The men worked heroically, sometimes it seemed amid flames, in the ,upper, storey. The water tenk'was getting low but onlook- ersformed a bucket brigade from the well, run by the wind- mill, to the tank, • The • value off property oskners having a supply of water avail- able was demonstrated when it was discovered that there was a large cistern ' under the bock kitchen. The suction hose was put in without removing the pressure in the hose trained on the blaze. The last spark teas finally ex= tinguished end the. • members of. the brigade returngd to the vil-•: loge tri%rmphant" ` about four. o'clock.' -They were tired and soaked to the skin but they still had -their, gUipnient to clean and put in order. They are buy- ing more fire -fighting equipment before thinking of purchasing rubber coats and boots for them-. selves -in the meantime damage totheir clothing from fire and water is their personal loss. And Norman Stephenson came. home ti a sorry -looking spectacle. The dormer window had been chopped off to put out a blaze which •kept flaring up in the well. A good deal of the roof was off and of course window panes out and damage from water and smoke. But the rafters and stud- ding were not burned and it can be repaired. He stated that he had left a coal fire when he went to. Zurich and it is thought that the. fire started either from the stove or a radio in that corner. It was :partly covered by insur- ance. The firemen were able to work quickly and efficiently bee eause the way was kept open for them and they were not`ob- structed ' in their work by on- lookers who kept well back from the house. *el.e en:t .': -14,•; islelt:eiei. i»l i ke: eleteiaieleae;teel.e4stee .+o' Don't Forget The routSeason OPENS SATURDAY, APRIL 30 At the ;moment we 'have in dock: Bronson Level Wind Reels: Altoona $5.00 Lashless 8x5 Comet Nylon Leaders and Leader Material: Leaders 25c - 35c Leader Material, per coil . 20c - 60c Nylon Trace Trout Hooks, 6 per card, 35c THIS WEEK'S TROUT SPECIAL: Assorted Wet and Dry Flies, each, reg. 30c Special 20c We have just received a new shipment of a• CCMBicycles and.
