Play Well Presented Under the direction of Miss Edith Merrier and Charles A. Hagen, a student cast staged an excellent play, 'Mrs. O'Leary's Cow!", a comedy in one act by Brian McCarty, the action being laid in the "settin' room" of the O'Leary„. farmhouse on the out- skirts of Chicago. Several very amusing situations were carried off with aplomb, and the vagar- ies of the Irish character were well exemplified. During t h e performance, the audience heard a good deal of Irish brogue, much of fiso g ogood and some of it notJoan Fines was a real Irish. woman, Mrs. Maggie O'Leary, full of impetuosity and senti- ment, while Irma Wallace, Betsy O'Leary, was a very mischievous young daughter who was always "putting her foot" into some- thing. Gordon Lane, as her son Emmet, was in love with Eileen Noonan, a charming young lady, played by Marion Hill, and their love affair was the reason for much of the merriment in the play. Lida Noon, her younger sister, was played by Mary Thompson. Mrs. O'Leary's friend - ]y neighbor, Mrs. Bridget Dona- hue, was aeted by Grace Lobb, who did well in keeping the Irish straight. The role of the boasting Professor P. D. Farnum, the little fixer of everything, was taken by Francis Denomme. who fitted into the part very naturally; this is not meant as any reflection on Francis, how- ever. And then the cow! it appeared—or at least its head did—all covered with green, but that was the point of the play. W. Brock Olde was in charge of the stage crew consisting of Bill Andrews, Thornton Mustard, Jack Raihwell, and Don Long- field, while Miss Margaret Mil- ler had charge of the .make-up, her assistants being Edna Ball, Betty Potter, Thelma Shobbrooke, Audrey Oliver, Phyllis Shanahan, Evelyn McDonald, Kathleen Clew, Margaret Hall, Shirley Falconer, Helen Ball and Joyce g edi e Toiletry Bar COLOGNES by:. He also was charged with bringing liquor into Huron Coun- ty, contrary to the Canada Tem- perance Act. An adjournment of one week was granted by Magistrate D. E. Holmes, K,C., on both charges. J. K. Hunter counsel for Spain, cited the report that the crown is seeking the right to appeal in cases prosecuted under the Cana- da Temperance Act in Manitoulin Island, Huron, Perth and Peel counties, He argued it would be a grave injustice if Spain were convicted and the court of appeal rules the charge is no offence. Crown Attorney H. Glenn Hays submitted that adjudication on Manitoulin eases could go on for years. Remanded for Sentence Roy Rowland, Grey Township, was remanded for sentence to Wingham after pleading guilty to breaking, entering and theft of cigarettes and coins valued at over $25, from the store of Geo- rge Dunbar, at Ethel, oh Novem- ber 24; also to breaking and en- tering with intent the creamery of R, B. Cousins, at Brussels on the same date. tiftteaCttaMcectearicteciatriewiamtriettatacisitimmataigiinterasicifietetetinaleatsr 1 • THURSDAY, DECEMBER 16, 1948 CLINTON N1?WSeRECORD PAGE THREE ueh'Talent : Unearthe At CCI Commencement The students of Clinton Col- Mildred Charter, Isobel Chowen, legiate Institute, with the expert Estelle Cox, Clarence Denomme, direction of the members of the Lois Doherty, Marjorie Doherty, teaching staff, staged one of the Joan Fines, Catherine Fingland, finest annual Commencement Charles Hanly, Audrey Jervis, programmes in many years when Fred Kirby, Alice ,McKenzie, the auditorium of the school was Thornton Mustard, Jean Nediger, packed to capacity Thursday and Lillian Stewart, Joan Whitfield, Friday : evenings last.
