CLINTON -NEWS-RECORD
It's "Do -or -Die"
For. Clinton -Colts
Clinton Colts are still in there
battling for the Ontario Baseball
Association Intermediate "C'
championship.
After taking out Mildmay,
WOAA titleholders, in two
straight games, 8-6 and 8-4, the
Huron -Perth League 'champions,
ran into a snag on the home lot
yesterday afternoon before the
largest crowd of the season when
they dropped the first match of
their semi-final series with
Strathroy Dodgers 10-9.
The second of the best -two -of -
three series is scheduled for
Strathroy, under the floodlights,
at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, and it will
be a "do-or-die" performance.
Despite their rather mediocre
showing here yesterday, many of
their supporters ere confident
that Manager Hugh Hawkins' lads
will evin Saturday's game and go
on into the Ontario finals.
That remains to be seen, how-
ever, if Colts play their usual
brand of ball instead of the slap-
dash variety handed out in the
first game, they have a good
chance of winning the next pair
of games.
Fatal Fifth and Sixth
Draper came in from the field to
pitch with none out^ and a man
' on base. The visitors did no
further scoring, and only 13 bat-
ters faced him in the four frames.
Dodgers concentrated all their
power lin the fifth and sixth
frames, on a combination of safe
hits and errors, and piled up six
in the fifth and four in the sixth,
after Colts had been nursing a
beautiful five -run lead, obtained
in a the first and third,
The barrage in the 'sixth sent
Bob Craig to the bench, and Bob
Locke, Strathroy twirler, wing-
ed himself merrily along and
!gathered more confidence with a
commanding lead behind him.
Colts added a sixth run in the
!eighth when White tripled to left
and scored' on Neilans' out at first,
Strong Stand in Ninth
But it was in the last of the
ninth that the fur—from the kcal
standpoint—began to fly, With
the score 10-6, Woodcock fanned.
Manager Hawkins, batting for
Schoenhals, singled to left and
advanced on secondbaseman's er-
ror, Cook, batting for Wilson,
struck out, 13111 Craig, who pre-
viously had taken brother Bob's
place in the line-up, singled to
left scoring Hawkins. He ad-
vanced to second on pitcher's er-
ror and scored on catcher's error.
Bartliff walked. White was hit
by pitcher, McEwan walked, fil-
ling the bases. Bartliff scored on
catcher's error, making the count
10-9. Neilans grounded out, sec-
ond to first, to end the game. It
was a close fit.
Saturday's choice for the mound !
has not been announced. It may.
be Bob Craig, and again, ii may
be Bob Draper. It will depend
on several factors. No matter
what happens, there will be a
large number of supporters on
hand from Clinton.

BADEN N FINALLY
WINS SOFTBALL
CHAMPIONSHIP
After giving their opponents a
healthy battle in the previous
games of the series, Clinton RCAF
finally went down to defeat be-
fore Baden Pirates in the WOAA
Intermediate "B" softball finals,
losing the series 4-2. The final
game at Baden resulted in a vic-
tory for Pirates by 12-9.
Officials of the RCAF team
stated that the umpiring, was
simply "terrific," and the worst
they had ever seen. They made
a spirited verbal protest to "Tory"
Gregg, WOAA president, but
naturally that could do no good
whatever.
