Organized only this year, Dr.
J. W. Shaw's team of Clinton
youngsters' are the 1948 Champ-
ions of the Peewee baseball
division of the Western Ontario
Athletic Association.
The kids won the, title and pos-
session of the James Reynolds
Trpohy by defeating Wingham in
the final series for the title, three
games to cne, Clinton won the
first 'game at home 10-6, lost the
second at Wingham 11-7, won the
third at home 17-4, and won the
fourth at Wingham 9-6.
The local lads were billed to
play Sarnia, champions of the
Western Counties League, in the
first round of the Ontario Base-
ball Association playdowns, but
Dr. Shaw decided differently. He
figured that school was re -open-
ing next week, that the boys had
gone through the season, without
injuries, and that the hop to Sar-
nia was a long one, with possibly
not much chance of going fur-
ther in competition.
The kids wins rest on their
laurels as WOAA title-holders.
Members of the team—Clinton's
future ball players—as they play -
'ed in the final series with Wing-
hame, are:
Jack Moore, ss; "Rickey" El-
liott, lb; Bill Carrick, 2b; Bob
Carrick, Jr., p; "Tim" Colquhoun,
c; John Hartley, If; "Ducky'
Denoreme, rf; Murray Maltby, of
Bob Germs, 3b; Jack Carter, spare.
Clinton 17—Wingham 4
After losing the second game
at Wingham Wednesday evening
last by 11-7, Shaws were right on
their toes for the third game here
Saturday afternoon, winning in
a walk by 17-4. They piled up
eight runs in each of the second
and fifth innings, and that was
all there was to it!
Bob Carrick fanned 12, walked
two, and allowed only one hit,
while Wingham used three twirl-
ers. Combined they struck out
five, walked eight and yielded
six hits, including two each, by
Bob Carrick and Maltby.

COLTS PROTEST
LUCAN VICTORY
IN PLAY-OFFS
If their protest fails, Clinton
Colts are one down with Lucan.
Irish Nine in their Huron -Perth
Baseball League semi-finals OBA
Intermediate "C" series.
The second match of the best -
two -of -three series will be play_
ed in Clinton Commumnity Park
Friday evening at 5.45 p.m. sharp.
A third game, if necessary, will
take place on the same diamond
on Monday next, Labor Day.
Reason for the protest, lodged
with League Secretary, Jack Tu-
dor„ at Hensall, last night, was
on the basis of insufflcinet police
protection of the playing field
and sundry other causes.
Incidentally, the hard-hitting
Colts, champions of the League
during the regular schedule, were
defeated 6-4 in a seven -inning
embroglio.
The southern Irishmen banged
over five runs in the fourth to
win the game. Hughie Hawkins'
travellers snitched two in each of
the fourth and sixth. Colts out -
hit Lucan six to five, but appar-
ently hit 'eni where 'they didn't
mean most.

RCAF TEAM
DECLARED OUT
OF PLAY-OFFS
Despite their convincing 7-0
defeat of Centralia RCAF in a
sudden -death Huron -Perth Base_
ball Leave match here Monday
evening to decide fourth place
in the league standing and the
last play-off position, Clinton
RCAF are "in the discard."
The management admitted us-
ing one extra "Robertson," a re-
cent arrival, in the match, with-
out a playing certificate, and Sec-
retary Jack Tudor, Hensall, edict -
ed that the Clinton Airmen were
suspended—Without the protest
committee being called in to de-
cide. Centralia then went on to
meet Hensall in the semi-finals,
and won the first game at Hen -
sail last night 5-4.
Clinton RCAF feel that they
should have had a review of the
situation before the protest com-
mittee in that they claim that
Martineau of Centralia, was in-
eligible because of the July 15
residence rule. But "rules is
rules" and "edicts is edicts."

LISTOWEL LEGION

IN GOOD SHOW
Listowel Canadian Legion "B"
and Clinton Colts "C" staged one
of the nicest little exhibitions of
priming baseball series you ever
saw with the former winning
both games, at home 6-5, and at
Clinton Friday evening last 2-1.
The match here Friday evening
was "one of the best baseball
games of the season—a nip -and -
tuck affair, a pitchers' battle.
Runs proved scarce as hen's teeth
because real baseball was played
for the entire seven innings.
In four frames, Gordon Stock,
Clinton's slowball curve artist,
held the enemy to one run -an
unearned one at that—although
he allowed five safe hits. Auburn's
Bob Craig came in in the fifth
and held Listowel to one run on
three safeties.
In the meantime,. Listowel's
fastball pitcher, Ken MacKenzie,
was putting up a big battle, yield-
ing one run on four safe hits,
(Bartliff, White, Schoenhals,
Craig). He also fanned nine, hit
one and walked two.
Johnny Bell, former Squadron
Leader at 7:Tinton RCAF Station
had a good time and figured his
team a sure thing to beat Gode-
rich Fliers, after they finish off
the present WOAA championship
series with Mildmay.
