OBITUARY
FUNERAL OF MRS. J. RAITHBV

The funeral' of the late Mrs.
John Raithby was held on Wed-
nesday afternoon, August 25,
from the home of her son-in-
law, Stanley Johnston, and was
conducted by Rev. A. Forsyth,
wile was assisted at the grave-
side. by Rev. William Rai -M:1,
Strathroy. During the service
Mrs. Wilfred Vesterfelt sang
"Alone With Thee."

Pallbearers were Glen Raithby.
Bill Raithby, George Robertson,
Sid 'Lansing, Lloyd Johnston and
Ray Perdue. Fiowerbearers were
three grandsons, Johnny, Grant,
and Harold Raithby. Interment
was in Bali's Cemetery.

Clinton of the death in Toronto Friday afternoon, August 27, at
on' August 23 of Mrs. Jennie Me- Ball and Mitch Funeral Home,
Lean, eldest daughter of the late.
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Livermore,
Clinton, She was in her 86th
year.
Mrs. McLean ismourned by her
husband and an only daughter,
an only son having paid the sup-
reme sacrifice in World War. L
Mrs. McLean was a sister of Mrs.
Herbert Castle and James Liv-
ermore, town, and had visited
them and her many nieces and
nephews in town last summer.
Mrs. McLean resided at 441/2
Victoria Park Ave., Toronto.

ANDERSON REUNION
A reunion of the Anderson fern_
ily, the first to be held, was held
at Port Huron, Mich.,, Saturday,.
August 28, with 85' members at-
tending from North Dakota, De-
troit, Mich., Oxford, Mich., Mar -
1 Tette, Mich,, and various other
points in the States,,attending
from Ontario were 'Mrs. Frazier
and Mrs Winder, Windsor; Mr.
and Mrs. Elston Dowson and fam-
High St., Clinton, forJohn. Mc-
Ewen. Rev. E. R. Stanway of-
ficiated and interment followed
in Baird's Cemetery. Pallbearers
were Alex McEwen John McFar-
lane, John A. McEwen, Thomas
Baird, Ross Scott and Alex
Thomson. -
Mr. McEwen, in his 89th year,
was a son of the late Alexander
and Margaret McEwen. He was
born near Bayfield, on the farm
on the Bayfield Road where he
spent the most of his life. He
moved to London late in 1944,
to live with his niece, Mrs. Wal-
ter Holmes. lie had been in his
ily, Mr.1 and Mrs, Arthur Ander-
sob ; i.ri family, Mr. and Mc: John
Anderson and family, 'NIr. and
Mrs. Emmerson Anderson and
family, Mr. and Mrs, Eldon Jar-
rott and family, Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Upshall , and family, from
Kippen, Ont. A very enjoyable
time was spent and it was de-
cided to make it an annual event..
Armstrong Reunion
'The .Armstrongs held their first
reunion at Harbour Park, Gode-
rich, on Sunday afternoon, Aug-
ust 28, when 75 people gathered
to renew old friendships.
Among the guests were Mrs.
Alice Armstrong, Pilot Mound,
*in.; Mr. and Mrs J H. Butter-
field, Bay City, Mich.; Miss Sis
Johnston, Bay City, Mich Mr,
and Mrs. McDonald and family,
London,
Jack Armstrong, Zurich, acted
as master of ceremonies and sev-
eral of the guests responded with
greetings and appreciation for the
large gathering and the splendid
fellowship enjoyed with old
usual good health until a few friends
days before his death. a""-
He is survived by a brother, BLY�H
Alex, Cleveland, a niece, Mrs,
Walter Holmes, London, and three
nephews and two nieces in Win-
nipeg.

The annual parade of live stock
champions, always a popular
feature of the Canadian National
Exhibition, takes place this year
on Sept. 8, in the Coliseum Arena.

Remanded for Sentence
George MacDonald, 16, Blyth,
in court' at Sarnia Monday, was
remanded to December 17 for
sentence on a charge of illegally
boarding the freighter Lethbridge
at Sarnia last July 14. Five other
seamen, all members of the strik-
ing Canadian Seamen's Union
(TLC) were also charged as a
result of the same incident.
Magistrate 1. B. Craig, Chatham,
said he was unwilling to sentence
16 -year-old MacDonald to a jail
sentence since he was probably
led by older men.
Others charged were Mike Hor-
nak, of Welland, sentenced to
one year, Albert Schumacher,
AIex Eddie Logonzinski, and Al-
bert Jackson, all sentenced to.
six months.
Police said the men boarded
the Lethbridge in ar, attempt to
induce the crew to leave the ship
and join the C.S.U. strike against
four lake shipping companies to
force the companies to sign a
working agreement with the
union. Five were wounded by
a shotgun blast. Chief Engineer
M. J. Murphy has been charged
with shooting with intent to
maim. He will appear to face
the charge in December.
Infant Passes
David John Chapman, infant
son of Mr. and Mrs, E. F. Chap_
man, Blyth, died on Monday. The
baby, who was five months old,
became suddenly i11 on Saturday
morning. He was taken to Clin-
ton Public Hospital, then to Lon-
don to the Children's Memorial
Hospital, where he died Monday
at noon. Death was attributed
to pneumonia. Besides his father
and mother, who was an English
war bride, the baby is survived
by one brother, Derek, two years
old. A private funeral service
was held at the family residence
Tuesday morning, with Rev. W.
J. Rogers, minister of Blyth Unit-
ed Church, in charge. Burial
followed in Union Cemetery,
Blyth.
