SEASON'S FINEST COLTS-HENSALL
SEES COLTS SHUT' CRUCIAL SERIES
OUT LUCAN 7-0 IN LEAGUE TITLE
•
In what spectators believed was
the best game of the schedule to
date, Clinton Colts shutout Lucan
Irish Nine 7-0 in a Huron -Perth
Baseball League match in Com-
munity Park Friday evening last.
The decision lengthened Colts'
lead, as Hensall was dropping a
close 8-7 decision at Mitchell at
the same time.
For three innings, there was no
scoring, but in the last of the
fourth, Colts broke out in one of
their typical slier. Neilans tripl_
ed to deep= left and scored when
Woodcock was safe on error.
Draper then homered to deep
right tallying 'Woodcock ahead of
him.
In the seventh, Colts added
three counters. McEwan singled,
advanced: to third on Neilans'
single, and scored on a passed
ball. "Bud" Schoenhals then, came
up and pounded one to the willow
tree across the track to right—
probably the longest hit' of the
season—tallying Neilans ahead of
him. In the eight, Draper hit
sharply to left, but when the
fielder let the ball through him,
Draper made the circuit. It was
scored as a double and an error.
Bob Draper had a perfect day
at bat with a homer, a double,
single and a walk, while Bert
White and Clarence Neilans each
had two in four, Lucan's best hit,
a triple, was knocked out by
Chown in the seventh with no one
on. Lanking, Sovereign and Rev-
ington also hit safely.
The baseball series the dist-
rict baseball fans have been
waiting for is here!
The league -leading trophy -
bound Clinton Colts play, at
Hensall tonight (Thursday) and
right back here again tomorrow
night (Friday) in two matches
that may decide the Huron -
Perth Baseball League title.
The game here starts at 6.15
p.m. sharp in order to finish
before dark.
Colts today were three games
up on Hensall, but after to-
night's match, ,they could be
only two up. Hensall then
would have a chance of making
it dangerously close for the cup.
The two local teams --Colts
and RCAF—tangle here Mon-
day evening in a game that
certainly is important to both
crews.
STONE SCHOOL WINS
Superior in every respect. Stone
School trounced Wroxeter Rock-
ets, 30-7, to capture the first game
of their WOAA "C" Softball
group finals. Nine home runs fea-
tured the game, Edgar and Proct-
or bagging three each. Stone
School rallied in the 3rd with 12
runs, while Higgins struck out
11. Wroxeter previously had el-
iminated Londesboro
