DOG BYLAW
IS AMENDED
BY. COUNCIL
(Continued form Page One)
been laid at Manning's garage
corner, on Kirk St., and at G,
W, Nott's corner. 'Weed cutting
is nearly completed. The back
streets were never in much Net-
ter shape, he reported, "High
Street is just like a pavement,"
he declared, Amount of $1,647
was leftout of $7,000 appropria-
tion.
"I . do think Council is on the
wrong track in its street policy,"
Ald. Paisley said. "We should
have a permanent top on the side
streets, perhaps doing a couple
of streets each year. This would
last for 20 years. Each 'year we
are spending $6,000 to $7,000
hauling gravel, and have nothing
to show for it, because it all
blows away."
Reeve G. W. Nott agreed that
it was a good suggestion.
Ald. Paisley said an engineer
had been here from the Depart-
ment of Highways and they had
asked him to have the main streets
paved five feet wider on each
side, There was a chance of get-
ting this favour. He said that
the County of Huron was doing
black top paving from Middleton
Church to the Post Office in
Clinton.
Reeve N'oet explained that the
County had decided to put black
top from the Post Office to over
the railway tracks and the prim-
er already had been put on. It
would be August sometime before
the paving was done, he said. Ile
declared he had had a "hard
fight" to get it at all.
Straighten Tombstones
LZ giving the report of the
Cemetery Committee, Ald. Crich
said there had been a request
from Len Weir to purchdse a half
lot in the park section of Area
"B'', This was left to the dis-
cretion of the committee and the
Superintendent. Work of Harry
Corey at the cemetery during
June was that of straightening
about 50 of the leaning tomb-
stones.
Town Hall Rentals
Reeve Nott, in the Property
report, said that the bulldozer
had been out at the dump, and
that a revision of outside rentals
for the Town Hall had been sug-
gested from the present $20 rate.
After discussion, Council set a
rate of $10 for non-resident or-
ganizations i.e. for all entertain-
ment other than dances.
Ald. Paisley suggested that the
old market scales be sold and the
old building removed. Ald.
Nediger pointed out the scales
were for wagons, not for trucks,
Ald. Crich suggested that t he
Property Committee clean them
and dispose of them. Council
agreed upon this suggestion,
