STAGE THRILLER
ON BALL FIELD
Clinton Colts and Goderich
Filers staged a thrilling 3-3 tie
in a Huron -Perth Baseball League
Intermediate fixture in Comm-
unity Park Tuesday evening be-
fore a small crowd. It was the
• first tie game the Colts had played
this year. They are now tied with
Hensall for the league Lead with
five wins and one loss each.
The game was called at the end
of the eighth on account of dark-
ness
Gordon Stock twirled seven
frames for Colts and was never
in trouble after the visitors had
got all their counters in the first
and second. Ordinarily a pitcher,
Bill Cook caught for him. Bob
Draper took over in the eighth,
with Laurie Colquhoun behind
the plate, and Blondy" Cook
went to centre field, Young pitch-
ed nice ball for the visitors,
Colts really missed the boat in
the fourth when Bob Miller was
caught stealing second with one
out, and in the fifth when Art
Woodcock, the first batter, was
nipped off first by catcher Wor-
sell. Base coaching, is sometimes
as important in a`game as runn-
ing the bases.

called on account of darkness,
and the second time, the match
ended in an 8-8 five -inning draw.

GOOD ;MATCH •
TO CENTRALIA
It was a battle of the RCAF
gladiators when the two service
teams in the 'Huron -Perth Base-
ball League—Clinton and Cent-
rglia—nret in Community Park,
Clinton, Monday evening. The
visitors won 7-5, after piling up
an early lead and holding it, or
at least part of it, to the - bitter
end.
Murphy hurled well for Clinton
for the whole nine innings, while
two lads split the duties for Cen-
tralia, Oberle and Y aake, the
latter coming in in the fifth. A
good crowd attended.
Centralia Airmen are about the
`hottest" team . in the 11 -team
group right now having won five
straight after getting away to a
mediocre start, They wear red
caps and red -trimmed uniforms,
as opposed to the Air Force blue
worn by the Clinton gang.

• The New••Double.Wings
Wednesday's ceremony was
unique in the fact that it . Was
the first time the .new double
wings had been awarded to radio
officers; previously, pilots had
been the only recipients.
However, this particular double
wing has three "sparks" in the
centreinstead of the insignia
"RCAF", as on a pilot's badge.
Otherwise, it is indistinguishable
from the, plot's. It means that
all aircrew henceforth will sport
the double, wing, since the only
classifications in the postwar Air
Force are the pilot and the radio-
navigator; both are essential.
Intensive Training
The flight cadets' training at
Radar a n d Communications
School, where Wing Commander
Sherman R. Burbank is chief
instructor, is very intensive. After
learning morse, he studies all
about the theory of radio and
radar and loran, and learns also
the organization of the Air Force
Signals Section and the procedure
for passing messages. This course
lasts eleven weeks, after' which
eight weeks are spent on com-
munications equipment, and seven
more on radar equipment,
For the last eight weeks of
their course, the flight cadets
have trained in actual flying op-
erations, travelling to Centralia,
where a flight of Dakota aircraft,
fully equipped for radio work, is
at their disposal.
