VICTORY BY 7-6
OVER ST. MARYS
Making their second appearance
at home this year on Monday
evening Clinton Colts had their
hands full to pull out with a
last -inning 7-6 victory over St.
Marys in a Huron -Perth Baseball
League Intermediate tilt.
The locals spotted the visitors
four runs in the first half of the
initial frame, but gradually cut
down the lead and went ahead
by one run in the third. St. Marys
got twosoft ones in the fourth,
however.
It remained for Draper's field-
er's choice in the last of the
seventh to send Harry McEwen
home with the winning counter
after Clarence Neilans had ad-
vanced himwith a safe hit. Pre-
viously, there had been none out.
Bill Cook twirled the entire
game for the winners and was
given only ordinary. support: Mal-
ialieu and Dick Hall divided the
mound duties for the visitors,.

able to play their scheduled game
at Lucan last evening on aceount
of wet grounds,
In Monday's match, the Airmen
short three regulars, were forced
to cone from behind to tie the
game in the last of the sixth. The
seventh was started, but the game
was called and the result revert-
ed to the end of the sixth,

Londesboro Intermediate "C"
softball team travelled to Harris -
ton on June 16 and defeated the
Harriston Intermediate "A" team
18-12.
This game was a thriller from
start to finish. Bloor started the
pitching for Londesbaro but was
relieved at the end of the second
inning by Carter. Lee of Lon-
desboro got the only home run
of the game.

CAPTURE FIRST
GAME AT HOME
Playing their first home game
of the season in the Huron -Perth
Baseball League' OBA Intermed-
iate "C" series, Clinton Colts de-
feated Exeter on the Community.

Formalities included the ac-
tions of Mayor A. J, McMurray,
who pitched the first ball, with
Dr. J. W. Shaw at the bat, and
Harry Bartliff catching. Rain
fell duringthe match but did not
hold up the game.
Bob Draper was on the mound
for Colts, Bill Cook taking up the
burden in the seventh. Draper
fanned eight. . Wilson, 4'burn,
was behind the bat for the entire
fixture. He displayed a good
pegging arm and . lots of ability.
Best hits were a homer by Drap-
er,
and a triple by„ Neilans.

The local ladies club played
host to Wingham ladies on Wed-
nesday last when about, 35 ladies
participated in a social jitney. A
chocolate cake, . donated by Mrs,
J. M. Elliott, was raffled, the
lucky ticket being held by J. A.
Sutter. Prize winners for the
event were Mrs. G. W. Nott; Clin-
ton, Mrs. G. Godkin, Mrs. H. Mac-
Lean, Mrs. E, ,:,Harrison, Mrs. W.
Haney; Mrs, R. Hobden, Mrs, H.
Campbell, Mrs. G, Beattie and
Mrs. G. Howson, all of Wingham.
A dainty lunch was served by
the Clinton ladies at the close of
the afternoon,

Thursday evening, prizes going to
Mrs. William Jervis, Mrs. B. Sut-
ter. J. Snider and Caryl Draper.
At the close the ladies served
coffee and the presidnt treated

Wingham Play Tie
Clinton Lions and Wingham
battled. ferociously to an 8-8 tie
in a WOAA Midget baseball,match
at Wingham Tuesday night, The
game was called on account of
darkness after five innings; ft
will have to be replayed.
Besides twirling a good game,
Jack Wilson knocked out a hom-
er for Clinton, while George Gain -
mage of Wingham smashed out a
homer and a triple.

Clinton Tigers put! up a game
fight in Clinton Community Park
Tuesday evening, but. could •not
overcome an early lead of Cent-
ralia RCAF. The locals lost 8-5,
which was a much closer count
than it was on the previous clash
of these teams, Five runs in the
second'for the visitors were plenty
to cause Tigers' downfall.
