BY 12-5 COUNT
Clinton Colts evened their
standing at one game won and
one lost when they travelled to
Si, Marys Thursday evening last
and defeated the Stone Town
team by 12-5 in a. Huron -Perth
Baseball League Intermediate
"C" match.
Bob Draper twirled a nice game
for the winners and was accorded
excellent support by his mates.
He fanned nine batsmen.
Colts started out strongly and
had three runs across before the
end of the first, by Bartliff, Mil-
ler and Neilans. Their big rally
came in the fifth, when five
counters were shoved across the
plate, the scoring being done by
Neilans, White, Colquhoun, Me -
Ewan and• Draper. White and
Colquhoun tallied in the sixth;
and Neilans and White in the
eighth.

Clinton Colts lost their opening
game of the season at Zurich,
when they dropped a 5-4 decision
to the home team after spotting
the winners three runs in the first
inning,
Bill "Blondie" Cook started for
Colts end remained on themound
for six innings, Coach Gordon
stock replacing him. G. Heide-
man served them up for the win-
ners and did a very creditable
job. Colts were able to get men
on bases but did not have the
right hits at the right time to
produce runs. Manager Hugh
Hawkins stated that the locals
should improve every time out.

softball team beat Blyth 43-7 in
Londesboro on Tuesday, June 8.
Hessiewood besides being the
winning pitcher, accounted for
several homers. This is the sec-
ond win for the bantams, they
having previously defeated Bel -
grave.

Wingham Mercurys defeated.
Clinton Tigers 14-9 in a fastbali
match which was a feature of the
Canadian Legion King's Birthday
Celebration in Clinton Community
Park last evening.
Tigers led 4-3 at the end of the
fourth, but the visitors took a
one run lead in the fifth and thea
increased it with two big fours
in each of the seventh and eighth.
Clinton got two in the seventh
and three in the eighth.

Clinton and district residents
anxious to register for a free
chest x-ray -for tuberculosis when
the rnsas survey takes place in
the Town Hall, Clinton, on Tues-
day --Wednesday, June 15-16, will
be interested in the results of
similar surveys in other Ontario
centres, as announced by the On-
tario Tuberculosis Association.
Canvassers in some Pembroke
districts, where b survey was
conducted recently, reported 100
per cent co-operation among the
citizens they interviewed. Only
a few persons were unwilling to
have an x-ray taken.
One 83 -year-old Pembroke wo-
man told a canvasser she was per-
fectly healthy. But she added:
"I'm, not the kind to be taking
chances. Put me• down for it"
In the Porcupine mining area,
including Timmins, Schumacher
and South Porcupine, where in
1944 the first mass survey w'is
conducted, 90 per, cent of those
canvassed were x-rayed. Of the
8,924 x-rayed, nineteen or 2°1 per
thousand were proved to have
active tuberculosis,

Clinton Collegiate Institute will
have four new teachers when
school re -opens in September of
Iter the summer vacation, it was
stated at the June 'meeting of
Clinton High School District
Board in the Collegiate Institute
(
Tuesday evening last.
Three of these 'will take the
place of• a similar number of the
present teachers who are leav-
ing, and the fourth will be an
additional teacher.
'The new teachers will be Miss
Anna Pond, Guelph, English,
French and Music; Miss H. M.
Reynolds, Toronto, English, hist-
ory and physical training; Miss
Edith Merner, Kitchener, English,
and Miss Margaret Miller, North-
ern Ontario, commercial, Each
will receive the minimum start-
ing salary of $2,200 per year. The
staff will consist of six men and
five ladies.
1 The three teachers who are
leaving at the end of this month
are Miss Mary Matheson, who is
going to Burlington, Miss Irene
Morris, and David Scott, who is
