Helen Cook spent the weekend and holiday in Toronto. Mrs. W. A. Oakes spent, the weekend at her cottage at Bala. Mrs. John Mair, London, was renewing acquaintances in town on Tuesday. Mr, and Mrs. Wesley 1•loggart have moved onto the farm re- cently owned by Z-luron Murch, Miss Joyce Carter, London, spent the holiday weekend at the home of her parents, Mr. 'and Mrs. Norman Carter. Miss Catherine Jefferson, To- ronto, spent the holiday weekend at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George If. Jefferson. Miss Marion Thompson, Ham- ilton, visited over the weekend with her brother and sister-in- law, Dr. and Mrs. F. G. Thompson. Mrs. Ira Merrill, accompanied by her son, Elwin, and son-ilf- law and daughter, Mr, and Mrs. George Colclough, were weekend visitors in Toronto. Rev, C. W. Cope, who conducted anniversary services in Wesley - Willis United Church on Sunday, was the guest while in town of Mrs. Andrew Lane and family at the Manse. Douglas 'Farquhar, Alex Powell and Murray McDougall left on Saturday last by car for British Columbia. On their return trip they will spend a few days in Banff, Alberta. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Carter and family, Chatham, spent the week- end with the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Carter. Mrs, Carter who had spent the past fortnight in Chatham returned home with them. Presbyterian WA Holds . June Meeting The WA of Clinton Presbyter- ian Church met in the Church parlour on Tuesday, June 1, with a good attendance. The press dent, Mrs. C. Twitchell, conducted the devotional exercises. Mrs. D J. Lane was at the piano in the enforced absence of Mrs. Snider, due to an accident. The secretary -treasurer, Mrs. Maxwell, read her reports. .Last- minute plans for the annual ba- zaar which was held on Sat lr- day, June 5, in the Town Hall, were made. After the Roll Call a hymn was sung followed by prayer and Mrs. Twitchell and Mrs. Shaddock served tea. There will not be another meeting of this society until September. Wesley -Willis WA Holds June Meeting The June meeting of the Wom- an's Association of Wesley -Willis United Church was .held in the Church Parlour with a fine at- tendance on the afternoon of Thursday, June 3. The president, Mrs. W. A. Oakes, was in the chair, and Mrs. H. Charlesworth was pianist. The opening hymn was "Jesus I my cross have taken," which was followed by the Lord's Pray- er. . The minutes were read by the secretary, Mrs. Bill Jervis, and the treasurer, Mrs. Percy Manning, gave the financial re- port. For the devotional period, Mrs. Reg. Shipley read the Scripture lesson from the First chapter of St. Mark's gospel, Mrs. Pickard gave "lesson thoughts" and Mrs. M. Nediger offered prayer. Iteports were received from the corresponding secretary, Mrs Charles Nelson, who read a num- ber of letters of thanks for flow- ers and cards of sympathy sent to those who have been ill or bereaved. Mrs. John Nediger, Jr., gave the flower report and Mrs. Pickard that of the Manse com- mittee. Plans were completed for the meals to be served July 12. Mrs. Fred Hanley and Mrs. Reg. Ship- ley are the conveners of the ar- rangements. A hymn and the Mizpah Bene- diction closed the meeting, after •which a delicious buffet tea was served. ' ARTIF,. s Ontario',St. WA Hears Committee Reports The June meeting of the WA of Ontario St. United Church was held Wednesday, June 2. Mrs. D. M. Maltby opened the de- votional period by singing a hymn, reading from the gospel of St. Mark and speaking on the disciple of the month, "Matthew." This period was closed with pray- er. • Mrs. C. Venner conducted the pusiness discussion when reports were heard from all committees. It was deckled to withdraw the meetings for the months of July and August. Further plans were made for serving meals July 12. A very fine and enjoyable pro- gramme was' heard. Mrs. Charles Stewart and Miss. L. Grant gave readings, and Miss E. Plumsteel favoured with an instrumental. The meeting closed with a hymn and prayer. A social half hour was spent at the close of the meeting with the ladies of St. Andrew's Ward .serving delicious refreshments. LEGION LADIES' AUXILIARY The Ladies'' Auxiliary of the Canadian Legion will meet in the Legion Hall on Monday, June 14, at 8.15 p.m. A good attendance is hoped for. E. R. Stanway united in marriage, Mary Grace Mc- Cully, daughter of Joseph S. Mc- Cully, and the late Mrs. McCully, Brucefield, and Charles Ivan Wightman, Belgrave, son of George Wightman, Kincardine. Spring flowers formed a floral background for the double ring cerarnony.. Given in marriage by her fath- er, the lovely bride wore a charm- ing gown of white Satin fashioned with fitted' bodice and full skirt with long sleeves tapering to a point at the fingers. Her circul- ar embroidered net veil was held with a matching halo of white satin and net. She wore a single strand of pearls, gift of the groom, and pearl earrings worn by her mother on her wedding day. Her bridal bouquet was Peerless red roses and' bouvardia, Miss Eva Mae Stackhouse, Brucefield, in pale pink sheer at- tended the bride. Her gown was styled with full skirt and sleeves, embroidered yoke and . halo of pink net, and she carried a col- onial bouquet of white matchless carnations,, Ken Brigham, Blyth, was groomsman. A reception was held' at Hotel Clinton, Clinton, for 36 immediate relatives of the bride and groom. Spring flowers, palms and ferns were used with .much effect for the deccrations, a three-tier wed- ding cake centering the bridal table, pink tapers in silver con- tainers, and vases of tulips, rily- of -the -valley and narcisses form- ed the table decorations. For a honeymoon trip to Niag- ara Falls and points in the United States, the bride donned a powder blue ballerina suit, raspberry shortie coat with black acces- sories. The groom"s gift to the brides maid was a locket with matching earrings, and to the best man a leather bill fold. They will reside on the groom's farm, Belgrave. Guests from a distance attend- ed from Kincardine, Brussels, Blyth, Wingham, Belgrave, Strat- ford, and Hensall. Music Supervisor And Teacher Named Clinton Public School Board, at its June meeting Thursday ev- ening last, appointed Miss Edith Erb, who has been teaching at Niagara -on -the -lake, as teacher of Grades 1 and 2, succeeding Mrs. G. H. Jefferson. Her salary will be 31,650 per year. The Board also named Mrs. Bert Boyes, organist and choir direct- or of Clinton Presbyterian Church as music supervisor succeeding Prof. A. Anderson, Goderich. On- ly one application was received. The Public School staff is now complete for 1948-49, with Prin- cipal G. H. Jefferson and eight other teachers. Chairman A. F. Cudmore pre- sided at the meeting, all members being present. The Principal's report for May indicated an enrolment of 314, and average attendance of 295 or 94 per cent. PROPERTY CHANGE P1t. Sgt.
