This would have necessitated overtime and anything might have hap- pened, The match was fast and clean, and attended by the largest crowd of the season -at least until that night. The ice also was good as the thaw had not set in until Tuesday. ^• Mitchell had lost the first game of the group semi-finals at home 12-5, but won the second here by 7-5 Friday evening last, It was noteworthy that the Mitchell lads captured all three games played on Clinton ice this winter and lost both games at home to the Colts. The Colts were minus Bill Counter for their game here Fri- day evening, but he was back in the line-up Monday. Taking both games together, and neglecting to mention the first of the series at Mitchell, the young Mitchell team probably deserved to win. They also had a super-duper goalie in Rowland, who was the difference between victory and defeat. Ile just could do nothing wrong. Doug Bartliff was this writer's choice for star mention in both games here. Doug really, put on a wonderful show and was re- warded with a lot of points. The other Colts all played well, too; In our opinion, probably the younger age level of the Mitchell kids might have had something to do with the ultimate result. However, the Colts staged a grand battle throughout the season and have no regrets in being eliminat- ed by Mitchell, now matched with Seaforth for the • group title. Seaforth Bosharts by 6-3 here Tuesday evening in the OHA Intermediate "B" group, semi- finals. Seaforth thus qualified to meet Mitchell Legion in the group finals. At least .1,200 watched or tried towa th the'match. atch. .After the teams tied the first game at Seaforth 7-7 in overtime, Bosharts returned here and won 5-3, and it looked as if it might be all over. However, there was no denying the Airmen, who, backed by strong support from. .the Fans, returned to Seaforth Thursday evening last and won by 5-4 in •a hardfought match. This necessitated a fourth game on RCAF home ice in Clinton, with the gate split, The visitors got the bulge on the .Airmen in the early stages of Tuesday's game by rapping in four goals without reply,. due to sloppy defensive work and clever opportunism on the part of Bosh - arta. That was too big a lead to overcome, and no matter how hard the RCAF gladiators tried for the rest of the game, they Just could not break down that insurmount- able, lead, During the last period, the Air- men hemmed Seaforth in their own end of the arena and buzzed around like hornets, but to no avail except one goal by Messier from Wright about halfway through. M The Air Force proved the sur- prise team of the group and de- serve every credit for its magnifi- cent uphill fight to get into the play-offs. • Seaforth 6 -RCAF 3 Seaforth Bosharts - goal, Me- Nab; defence, Woods, O'Shea; cen- tre, Roberts; wings, McLean, Ken- nedy; alternates-NfeFaddin, Ell - ;wood, Boussey, Shp(, LaBute, Hildebrand; i Muir (sub -goal),.
