HomeMy WebLinkAboutClinton News-Record, 1948-02-12, Page 10-PAGE„ ,TEN S.- P -O -.R- 1'- S Goal Averages Decide OHA Group Placings -:s g So Close was the race in Group 6, ORA Intermediate "B" series, that both first and third places were de- eided by goal averages and the play- offs arranged accordingly. Clinton Colts and Seaforth Bosharts finished tied for first with eight games won and two lost, each, while Mitchell Legion and Clinton RCAF finished tied for third with four games won and six games lost, each. Hair- breadth goal averages decided the issue, Clinton Colts being awarded first place, Seaforth Bosharts second, Mitchell Legion third, and Clinton RCAF fourth. The semi-final series, which opens at Seaforth tonight, should be a "hum -I linger", all four teams being very well matched. Two out of three games count, the third to be played on the home ice of the team finishing higher. The general opinion is that "anything might happen" before the group title is decided. 'he OHA executive committee has ruled that Steve Wright and J. P. Bunter, recently transferred to Clin- ton RCAF Station, will be allowed to play for the Airmen, ,providing they already have been in the service six months or more. COLTS 8—RCAF 6 Clinton Colts and Clinton RCAF dashed in the final game of the group schedule—postponed from January 6 —in Clinton " Lions Arena Monday '.eyeing, Colts winning after a hard fight by 8-6. It was a rough game, with no less than 16 penalties being handed out by Referee Gordon Muir -- including three majors and a miscon- duct. The 16 were evenly divided, Nauglar being the bad man Tor RCAF with a major and three .minors, while Colquhoun got three minors and Bart- liff a major and a minor for Colts. The attendance was the Iargest of the sewn, totalling about 700, with support about evenly divided between the two local teams. It was Airmen's home game. If they come together in the group finals, there will be great interest taken, no doubt. Colts led 4-1 at the end of the first and 7.4 et the end of the second. Bill Counter ,picked up six scoring points for the Colts and "Bud" Sehoenhals got his first goal of the season. Harry McRsyan, left wing star, was not in the Colt line-up because of illness. Centre Messier, still a junior, star- red for` Airmen and was just about the best man on the ice. He yh one of the cleverest players in •the group and is a tower of strength to the Airmen. The rough stuff on the ice was not entirely appreciated by the spectators, and will have to be eliminated, even if it requires a referee and a lineman and a fieek of suspensions.
