411URSDAl, JANUARY 29, 1948 OIrINTON, Ni]WS-RE,C0RD FEAR By "" 'j! those interested in real'Mate, bond labor, and even, the church are read ing tthese fereaste with interest. ' most 'without exception the fear of war is stressed both by American and ldanadian commentators. May God grant that something may intervene and that in some way peace may be bionght about! This year perhaps more so than for some time we have started Jan- uary with a fearful mind, There is au optimistic side to it, but it is so faint that it is scarcely ,realizable. Fear is really one of the worst things wecan over allow to creep in- to our minds. It 11111 spoil our whole day mode liko worry there is really very little we can do about it, but it can do a great deal With us, A recent letter carried this Message from an. ,aged minister. It is 'wort!, (voting "I really think the. troubles of our day worry me, the unsettled mind of the. world, The iridiffexenee of people all about us, the moral lapses the disrespect awomen, with Murder and crimes much too near ns. It is a sad day in which we live and to spiritual revival in sight, Yet it is our Father's world and we are here to live acid love and serve." How true every word of that mess- age from one of God's true saints 1s1 We would "not be 1111/119.11 if we did not think seriously almost to thepoint of worry about conditions to: day. God does not intend that we should worry for He has given us the assurance that He is our Helper and that He AVM'give us strength for the needs of everyday. Perhaps eve e face sorrow, anxiety, trial, holiness 'but if ere put our hand in the hand of God Be wilt lead us safely through t r We like.little children and as we g have every oonfidenco 531 011r earthly -' father so we should have in our Reavi- ,'only Father whose pooniises ar`e avian I s more to bo relied on thaa'auy earthly . father." - , Jesus never fails, nor do His promises, IThe following story may be some help to us wvhon fear overcomes us. A little three, year old child was awak- once 'from a sound sleep by a honey clap' of thunder. Be was frightened • by the heavy downpour of rain and the lightning as . well as the thunder. ',Instinctively he shot his little hand Waugh the railing of his crib and began tugging at the clothes on the bed right next to him. A large band immediately took Bold of his little I teenrblting fingers and. held them in its strong grasp. '"Is that you Daddy!• Ire called in an excited'piping voice, The father, for it was he, answered 1 `.Yes; dear I am hero" "All right'' called back the little lad with a voice mow calm The storm raged on but the boy quickly dozed off assured that all was wen. If we have the assurance in our lives that there is One Who guards us, a peace which at times is almost strange comes to our soul and eve find fresh courage to tackle every situation that comes a- long..It gives us a new power such as we had never known before. • Then as a second thought oar muds aro unsettled. There seems to be so numb. going on which is per- plexing, 00 much that we (mullet fatb- opn-the unsettled. state of Farape with the almost famine condition {`w!hieh prevail there and the tragic breaking up of the "Big 4" Confer- ence. We sometime think those things are not our affair, but they are. We an at least pray that God will d&root those leaders of the different comit- ies and that they will yet bo blreugrtt o some agreement which will be eat - As 'this • article 5s boing written ou papers and Magazines are carryin ;foreiists for the year 1948. Parlia meu'tariaas, business men, farmers isfaetory to all and that Will .firing peace terms to the countries involve There is the indifference of !peep! wU about us, las there ever been tiiue when people seemed so careles '$f ei'ervthing that is taking plae jaroune them. As we see that hothers we must roalie that they see it 5n us. There are many ,things right in ri g' t enr own vicinity over -which we should be deeply eoneerned, and yet Inc are Dither unconcerned about diem or for some reason of other we are afraid to express our opinion when a tragedy occurs then. we waken ,up and, regret deeply the fabt that we did not use our infliionce to help straighten things out. This is shown very clearly in many of the so called necideuts which Have startled our different communities during the past year. We wonder just what will be done about the level erossing aeeidents in which three and four people have •been killed That eat of accident has been going on for years. Something will surely be done to prevent further repititions of ;these. One cannot imagine the fear which must have struck the hearts of the occupants of those ears and trucks as they saw death rush- ing upon them and they knew they were helpless to get out of the way of the on rushing train, trucic or ear. Our papers have been publishing a summary of moral lapses resulting in htntrders which have taken place he Ontario during the past year. Many of these cases have been the result of laxness in allowing perverts to be re- leased from prison without boing pro perly guarded. Many of them are Per- haps not aceowrteble for their mot- ions and the horrible crimes which (have been committed may be the means of laws being made which will be a better protection for the public. It is little wonder, with all the trag- edy round and about us that girls, women and men even have a fear of going on the street or even staying alone in their homes. One does net tsoenr to be safe anywhere. It is indeed a very "Dad day in which we live," perhaps there has never been a more sod time but there is a future =ahead of us. It is our d. Pathor's world" sad no matter' ivhat e aippens Qod 5e at', else head of rho a. world affairs. There, are 3114117 things s ,which wore.faced during 1947 which o. have not been settled and these will t be 'brought up again in 1948. 1 (What is the solution of 5t•'a11F No one living can tell how it will all ens] or how the problems will 1) Halved, but WO do know that if there. was a spiritual revival things would be very mudh better. We are here to "live and love and !serve". Would it not be wonderful 'if we would make that a motto to carry with us through 1948. As we live we should ]earn to love as Christ would have us love. If we have that Nye in our hearts we will have a tui. crrrauce 'towards one another such se we have never had before, Then as we love we will want to serve. We will have many opportunities to serve Jesus Christ. This we can do by tell- ing of Iris' love to us,, a love' which is never failing and we explain; to those about us of His saerifical death for us on the cross we must so live that those who know us will see Christ in us. Otherwise it 5s useless for' us to` tell of Iris love, In that beautiful chapter John fourteen - we leave the words of. Christ to us, "Let not your 'heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid," Will we "not take these words as our very own and recall them when we are in any way afraid. "Unto this day both through Joy and through sorrow ivHo hath been near with His tenderest ease. Will He not then through Mee unknown to -morrow Sweetly and safely His trusting child bear". pee Drew ,Government Perlrormance HYDRO In 1943 -the last year before the Drew Government took office -rural lines added: Miles Consumers 2.34 23 Rural lines added since the Drew Government took Hydro out of politics: In 1944 Miles Consumers 1945 15.71 275 1946 112.08 517 1947 78.9S 661 Planned for 194$ 67.89 697 167.89 1145 Vote for TOM PRYDE PROGRESSIVE -CONSERVATIVE And Keep HURON in the GOVERNMENT Ranks £fee r f G Vara SERUM. 1511:11:S4£1lit MIXTURE NOw . rl 5 FNM" *ea.zzzo..
