New Year's Party
The Annual New Year's Eve Euchre
and dance held under the auspices of
L. O. L No. 24 was' well attended', and
all joined in the merry mood of the
evening eveii though it was crowded for
dancing. The prizes for Euchre were
awarded as follows: Ladies high, Betty
Heard; Ladies Consolation, Phyllis Bell
Men's high, Prod Telford; Consolation,
Lloyd Sowerby. Flannigan's Orchestra,
Exeter played for the dancing- The re-

The Trinity Church Sunday SAhool
and Congregational social was held in
the Orange Hall on Monday evening,

December 29. Rev. LaVerne Morgan
acted as elcairman, for an impromptu
program by the children. Mre. Win. E.
Parker led in games for the children
which were enjoyed by all. Following

One of the most enjoyable danees of
the.
Season was held in the Town Hall
enFriday evening for the benefit of the
newly -formed Bayfield Fire Company.
It was arranged by the Fire Chief,
Walter Westlake, and his assistants.
The stage was appropriately decorated
as a Fire Hall with a miniature engine,
ladders, and other , equipment, The
Bayfield Valley Five played for the
dancing. Kenneth Merrier was floor
manager and conducted the novelty
dances very ably.` Prizes were won as
follows: Door prise, Richard McDoo1; Mr. and ,Mrs. Fred Middleton.

Elmer Webster. Mr. Webster, when
called to the platform, made a cam-
paign speech, stating his platform in the
coming election for Reeve of Stanley
Township.
Grant Turner, 2nd Lieut. on behalf
of the members of the organizwtion
thanked the large number present for
their attendance and success of the even-
ing. He also stated the company would
answer fire calls from both Goderieh
and Stanley Townships and that be-
fore the end of the year they hoped to
have paid for the truck and all neeessnry
equipment. The net receipts have not
yet been determined but the affair was
e decided success, financially,

Community Club Meets
The December 'meeting of S.S. No.
4 Community Club was held at the
home of Mrs. Bert Lobb with thir-
teen present. A quilt was quilted
during the afternoon and a bale
packed for Northern Ontario, It
was decided to answer the roll call
at the January meeting by' donating
the number of coppers correspond-
ing to the size of one's shoe. This
meeting will be held at the home of
Mrs. Arthur Hebden. A gift donat-
ed by Mrs. Mprgan Jones was woe
by Mrs. H. McCartney. Misses Mar-

served a delicious lunch at the close
of the afternoon's activities.

The annual statement of the treasurer
of Blyth Glee Chib showed a balance of
over Via when the club met for the Last
meeting of 1947 at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Prank Marshall. Owing to wintry
weather and road conditions, it was de-
cided to remain inactive until spring, and
the following officers to remain: presi-
dent, Mrs, Kenneth McDonald; secretary,
Lois Doherty; treasurer, Kenneth Mc-
Donald; pianist, Phyllis Shepherd; assis
taut, Marjory Doherty.

Mr. and Mrs. Howse and family, At-
wood, who recently bought the local dairy
business from S.tew.ait Durward, 'have
become established herb, and• took over,
the milk route Wednesday morning. Mr.
and Mrs. Durward plan to leave for an
extended trip through the southern

Mr. Durward's health was the reason
for his giving up business here.
