Bello Homemwlters. ' Although
there are many complete decora-
tive items in the stores, some
folks like to make.'itheir own
because of the fun involved. One
idea you can copy is a miniature
Christmas tree for the front win-
dow or door. You will need a
wire coat hedger, 15 -inch piece of
12 -inch chicken wire, about' 40
sprigs of spruce, green string, 2
yards of tinsel or tinfoil strips
and a few novelties. Now bend
the hanger into a fire tree shape,
using the handle as a base, Cover
frame firmly with chicken wire.
Begin the tree by using three
short sprigs to form the peek;
then use two long sprigs one on
either side to form the two low-
est boughs. Now fill in the tree,
slightly overlapping each sprig.
Secure any loose pieces with
sticky tape and hang from the
window catch or a door knocker.
You are now ready to trim the
tree with tinsel, star and orna-
ments. -
Take A Tip
1. Keep holly where it's cool until
decorations are being arranged.
2. Never arrange fir boughs over
the mantle if the fireplace is
to be used for heating.
3. Put lighted candles in a place
where a draught will not carry
the flame to curtains or other
materials.
4. Tie red or green ribbon in bows
for dressing up boughs, tiny
reindeer, flower vases, serviette
rings and such.
5. Make the plate of sliced Christ-
mas cake festive by tucking a
sprig of holly and a few cran-
berries in the centre.
6. A candle with a sprig of green
tueked.in the holder and placed
on the tea or coffee tray brings
out the shine on the china and
silver.
7. Christmas seals stuck on tum-
blers
umblers or goblets will remain
during the holiday season when
edges are varnished with clear
nail polish.
8. An old favourite dcoration is
popcorn balls tied in coloured
cellophane, Or, use red or green
food colouring to give a var-
iety. Hang the balls on the
tree;

THE VOICE OF
TEMPERANCE
No one was surprised when the
vote in. Peel County went against
the Canada Temperance Act.
Many were disappointed. The
advance of the liquor flood is
cause for anxiety to all who have
the best interests, of the com-
munity at heart. No good will
come from the opening of liquor
outlets in Peel County. In Huron
we are fortunate in being far re-
moved from the big city; fort-
unate also in being largely rural.
From past experience we know
that we are not safe from polit-
ical trickery; On every count
there is need for vigilance and
steadfastness on the part of
everyone who wants to keep this
good county and its people and
its children free from the men-
ace of the liquor traffic.-ADVT.
