SECURE WATER FROM HURON AT CENTRALIA Department of National Defence, concerned at a lack of adequate wgter• supplies for its big Centralia RCAF station, yet may turn to Lake Huron as a source. The Department, temporarily at least, has suspended pipe -laying operations from a well in Woodham following representations from two district members of parliament. The M,P.'s carried to Defence Minister Brooke Claxton the protests of re- gional farmers that the RCAF was imperiling farm supplies. Andrew Y. McLean, Liberal M.P. for Huron -Perth, and James Corry, his Liberal colleague from Perth, have been pressing the farmers' case in Ottawa and urging a water - from Huron project: Various plans were being exam' fined, said the Department, One was to have water supplied from a deep well which would not affect the ex- isting water table, in the Depart- ment's opinion, The tapping of Lake Huron for water supplies long has been dis- cussed in Western Ontario as mu- nicipalities have had to go farther and farther afield for water. The Centralia station has had difficulty obtaining adequate water supplies since it first was opened in 1942. At that time a number of wells were drilled and while in cer- tain cases water was found avail- able in quantity, it was discovered too high in sulphur content to be fit for use. 0 Christmas Seal Drive Progressing Huron County Christmas Seal Campaign is progressing, b u t not any faster than the committee would like.
