mother, Mrs. F. C. Gemeinhardt,
the end of last week, having
came over for her birthday.
Mrs. J. H. Cobb closed her
cabin and returned to her home
in Toronto on Sunday after hav-
ing spent the past seven months
here.
Miss Betty Heard, London, is
spending her vacation with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Emerson
Heard. Mrs. Heard's brothel*,
George Hewitt, London, also spent
a few days with them recently.
Mrs. J. MacKenzie returned
home recently after having visit-
ed her daughter in Chicago. She
was accompanied by Mr. and Mrs.
W. Hammen, Detroit, who were
her guests for a couple of days.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Ahrens
have closed their cottage,, "The
Trail Blazers," for the season,
and have returned to Detroit,
Mich.
Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Kendall,
Amy Grace and Jane and Mrs.
William R. Jowett, Elmira, spent
Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Le-
Roy Poth.
Mr. and Mrs. Art Sullivan and
Davey, Romeo, Mich., and Mrs.
Claude Robbins and Claeudea,
Detroit, spent Sunday with their
mother, Mrs, W. J. McLeod, Sr.
Mrs. J. H. Phinney came on
Friday to visit her sister, Mrs.
J. J. Richardson, and returned to
Detroit on Sunday with her hus-
band who was also here over the
weekend.
Congratulations!
Master Binnie Sturgeon cele-
brated his tenth birthday on
Saturday when . his mother ent-
ertained 16 boys and girls in his
honour. The children had a most
enjoyable afternoon playing bingo
and other games and lastt-byt by
no means least was the supper
with favour and caps carried out
in yellow and turquoise.
Fire Brigade Busy
Bayfield Fire Brigade answered
there .calls to put out chimney
fires last week—two on Wednes-
day, first . to Mrs. Robert Blair's
home on 'Clan Gregor Square and
later to John Turner's home on
the Blue Water Highway, Stan-
ley Township. And on Thursday
at noon to the home of Mrs.
George Lindsay, Goderich Town-
ship. As usual the efficient mem-
bers of the brigade soon had the
fires under control.
Bible Society Annual
The annual meeting ' of Bay-
field Branch of the Upper Can-
ada Bible Society was held fol-
lowing a service in St. Andrew's
United Church conducted by the
pastor, Rev. Peter Renner, assist-
ed by Rev. H. J. B. Webb, on

' United Church Ladies ,
The November meeting of the
United Church women was held
on Tuesday evening last at the
home o,, Mrs. Gladwin Westlake,
Blue Water Highway, with a good
attendance. Both presidents,.Mrs.
Renner and Mrs. Makins were
present and each- conducted her
own meeting. Mrs. Robert Scotch -
mer introduced the new study
book, "From Lakes to Northern
Lights," a book on United Church
Home Missions. The WA made
plans for serving the Orange-
men's banquet on Nov. 2. ' An
appetizing and appropriate lunch
was 'served of sandwiches, pickles
and pumpkin pie with whipped
cream, a Hallowe'en touch. The
lunch . committee consisted of

The WA of St. Andrew's Unit-
ed Church catered at a banquet
held in the Church Parlours on
Friday evening last for members
of LOL No. 24 and members of
their families. They served a
turkey dinner to 140 persons. The
grace was said by the chaplain,

WM, was master of ceremonies,
Rev. Peter Renner and Rev. H.
J. E. Webb each spoke briefly
and expressed their pleasure and
thanks on behalf of themselves
and their families at being guests
of LOL No. 24 on this occasion.
The guest speaker of the even-
ing, Ven. Archdeacon William A.
Townshend, D.D.. London, was
accompanied bynus wife. After
some personal reminiscences, Dr.
Townshend delivered an eloquent
and thought-provoking address
on "Citizenship", in which he
emphasized the primary import-
ance of putting God first.
Trinity Guild Meets
Trinity Church Guild met at
the home of Mrs. F. A. Edwards
on Thursday evening last with a
good attendance. The rector open-
ed the meeting with prayer and
the president, Mrs. R. J. Larson,
thn took charge. Plans for the
bazaar and winter work were*dis-
cussed and a list of those respon-
sible for cleaning the church
drawn up to the end of the year.
At the close of the meeting the
hostess served refreshments and
the rector pronounced the Bene-
diction.
A meeting was held on the
evening of October 24 in the base-
ment of St. James Church, Mid-
dleton, for the purpose of organ-
izing a Men's Club for the par-
ishes of Th iniity, Bayfield, St
John's Varna, and St. James
Church, Middleton. There was a
good representation from. Bay-
field and Middleton. C. Cooper
was elected president, and E. C.
Wise, secretary -treasurer. Mem-
bers of the executive, one repre-
sentative appointed, from each
church, are; J. E. Hovey, R. E.
,Rowden and T. W. Reid. The
guest speaker was W. E. Middle-
ton, Exeter, who addressed the
gathering on The Aims and Ob-
jects of the New Brotherhood of
Anglican Churchman formed in
the Diocese this year.
ENGLISH CLASSES
EXETER—For the fifth year,
classes in basic English are be-
ing conducted weekly et the High
School by Principal Harold Stur-
gis. The enrolment this year
numbers 40. At Centralia Air-
port School, J. B. Creech, of the
high school faculty, is conduct-
ing similar classes for NATO
cadets.

YPU Meets
The B -L YPU held its regular
meeting in Londesboro United
Church on Sunday night and was
in charge of Harry Leer, con-
vener of the 'culture group, The
call to worship was given by
Harry Lear after which hymn
109 was sung; the Scripture was
then read by June Manning after
which the offering was taken up.
June and Gail Manning then sang
a duet, following this a reading
was given in three parts by
Byrant Swain, Harry Lear and
Mrs. C. Vincent. Mrs. Vincent
then led in prayer after which
the meeting closed by singing
hymn 181.

Londesboro WI Meets
The Londesboro Women's Insti-
tute was held in the Memorial
Hall' in the evening and opened
with the usual opening exercises.
The minutes were read and ap-
catering for the Farmer's Federa-
tion banquet on Nov. 9. Mrs.
K. McVittie and Mrs. B. Griese
attended the sewing course in
Clinic,, and report a very enjoy-
able and profitable time.
Miss Scott of the training school
was present and spoke a few
words, She also introduced Miss
Subhadamsna of India, who is
in Canada attending various con-
ventions and taking back new
ideas to her native land. Several
members had been, remembered
by their Sunshine Sister.

Section 88, Poll for the Electoral ' District of Huron wi.II be open on
Thursday, Friday and ' Saturday
15th, 16th, and 17th days of
November,. 1951,
from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m.
The polling place for the said Electoral District will be located at
Lorne Brown's Service Station,
north side of Ontario Street, Clinton,
for the purpose of receiving the votes of voters who will be absent in the
ordinary course of their business or employment from the Electoral
District on the day fixed for polling.
The ballot box will be opened and the votes counted at 7:00 p.m.
o'clock in the Town of Clinton, the 22nd day of November at the said
