Clinton Lions Advance
Into OBA Semi-finals
(By Richmond Atkey)
Clinton Lions, WOAA Midget
baseball champions, easily dis-
posed of Georgetown Raiders in
two straight games in the Ontario
Baseball Association Midget
championship series, winning at
Georgetown 13-3 and at Clinton
Saturday afternoon, 19-6.
During Saturday's game it was
humoured that Georgetown would
protest the series on the ground
that the Clinton lads had not
signed a necessary OBA form.
The allegation was true, but the
circumstance was that a supply
of the forms did not arrive from
the OBA secretary in Hamilton,
in Tory Gregg's hand's at Wing -
ham, until Saturday afternoon-
too late to mail down to Clinton,
Needless to 'state, the "protest"
was not proceeded with.

Meet Wheatley

Western Counties Baseball Lea-
gue, and conquerors of Simcoe,
at Wheatley Wednesday after-
noon' and back in Clinton this
Saturday afternoon et three
o'clock.
Winner of the Clinton -Wheat-
ley semi-final 'series will clash
with the winner of Carleton
Place -Oakville semi-final series.
Incidentally, Carleton Place is
situated near Ottawa; Oakville is
halfwaly beltween Toronto jird
Hamilton.
Practice Games
The matches with Georgetown
proved little better than a couple
of practices and very disappoint-
ing to local fans who wanted to
see a tough series to keep the
young Lions on edge.
Ken Patterson, the lad from
Auburn, twirled most of the way
for Clinton, and with a four -run
lead, lefty Bob Carrick took over
in the sixth. The former struck
out five' in five innings, allowed
four bits and walked six, while
the latter fanned five in four
frames, yielded no hits, and
walked three.
John Hartley Clinton second -
sacker, starred at bat for his team
with two doubles and a single.

Happenings at CDCI
The rugby season at CDCI was
brought to everyone's attention
by a rugby dance in the school
auditorium on Friday evening,
September 28. The dance began
at 8.45 p.m. and those attending
had the pleasure of dancing to all
the famous bands and vocalists
of America.
During the evening a program
was presented. It consisted of an
introduction to the football play-
ers by Mr. Pat Humphreys, the
coach of the team. The players
were gaily dressed in their red
and white sweaters. Then the
cheer leaders led a few of the
school cheers which are really
going to give the team support.
During the past week, CDCI
form representatives have been
busy taking ard'ens for school
Christmas cards, school pennants,
and ribbons.
Perhaps you have seen stud-
ents wearing red and blue rib-
bons on their jackets. These rib-
bons are the school colours and
will be worn at all basketball
and rugby games. The first rugby
game was played between Clinton
and Wingham this afternoon at
Winghean.

Attempting to clear a stop-
page in a corn -cutting machine,
James K. Wilson, 52, R. R. 2,
Auburn, had his right hand am-
putated during the weekend. He
was admitted to Wingham Gen-
eral Hospital for treatment.
The mishap occurred on the
farm of Harvey Alton, West Wa-
wanosh Township. A Lucknow
doctor attended the injured man.
Hospital authorities report the
condition of Mr. Wilson as satis-
factory.
IN THE RCAF
(Continued from Page Seven)
the fun began'. It seems that
every wife, sweetheart or sister
of every man up North saw that
handbag and immediately turned
green with envy.
The next load of mail had
hardly been dropped at the nor-
thern detachment when a crowd
of eager airmen began hammer-
ing, cutting, punching, sewing,
coloring and polishing leather
handbags. From then on Charlie
had all the customers he needed.
The moral?
Never underestimate the power
of' a woman.
