Clinton Lions Take
'Midget. “..A7.
After losing, the first game of
the series 8-3 at Fergus last week,
Clinton Lions Midgets came back
strongly and took the next two
matches and the WOAA Midget
"A" baseball title.
Lions just managed to squeeze
out a 3-2 win over the Elora -
Fergus Legionnaires on Commun-
ity Park diamond Saturday after' -
noon, but the boys were right on
in the sudden -death deciding
match at Listowel Tuesday when
they won by the decisive count
of 9-2.
The youngsters were scheduled
to play at Dashwood at 4.30 p.m.
today, with the return match in
Clinton at 3,30 pan, Saturday for
the so-called "Grand Champion-
ship" of the WOAA Midget ser-
ies and the right to proceed fur-
ther in the OBA playclowns.
Dashwood won the Midget "B"
title, it would seem.
Clinton 3—Elora-Fergus 2
It was a nip -and -tuck affair
s Lions won Saturday before a
air crowd on a lovely afternoon.
Clinton got the first run of the
game in the sixth when Bob
Carrick, trapped between third
and, home, scored when the cat-
cher blocked his way to the plate.
Ken Patterson singled in the
seventh and was brought home
n Ron Carter's triple to deep
centre, the latter tallying on
Terry Jenkins' single.
In the first of the eighth, the
visitors banged. across two runs
on a single, a walk, and' three
passed balls. The tieing run was
on third 'when the third out was
made by strikeout. In the ninth,
with two out, Hewer walked, got
o second on a passed ball, and
stole third, but the final out of
the game was made, second to
first.
Southpaw Bob Carrick had 13
strikeouts and Playford and Moir
nine between them. Patterson and
Ted Avruskin had two hits,

Rugs Holmes' kids made no
mistake in the third and deciding
game at Listowel Tuesday when
they ran up a lead and Weld it,
winning 9-2. The game was cal-
led at the end of the sixth in-
ning on account of darkness, but
the fault was the umpires' who
did not arrive until after the
game was scheduled.
Lions played a cracking good
game behind Bob Carrick's fine
twirling. They were in warst
hot water in the second when
Elora filled the bases on a hit
batsman, an error and another
hit batsman. However, the third
man was struck out to end the
rally.
