spend a month with her mother.
Miss Betty Langford who has
been with Mr. and Mrs. George
Little for over a year, left the
beginning of the week to spend
a vacation at her home in Lon-
don.

Mary Lou returned to their home
in London on Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Feather-
ston left on Friday evening on a
motor trip to Montreal baa New
York State to take their daugh-
ter Mrs. Keith Leonarrand five
children, who have been here for
several weeks, to their home.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Day and fam-
ily accompanied by Laura Pink-
erton, Mount Pleasant, Mich.,
spent the weekend and Labour
Day at their Cottage. -Mr. and
Mrs. Tom McGibbon and family,

the weekend and holiday.
Mrs. Walter Brodie, Toronto, is
the guest of Mrs. A. W. Reid and
Miss Kathleen Reid, "Enffiefd,"
this week. W. Brodie and Mr.
and Mrs. Victor Story, Toronto,
accompanied her to the village
and were guests at The New Ritz
Hotel over the weekend.
Miss Anne Drouin has returned
to Detroit after having spent the
summer vacation at her home
here. Misses Alice DrouIn and
Adele Fernette enoyed a motor
trip to Tobermory, Tuesday, re-
turning to their respective cot-
tages in the village, Wednesday.

returned to Goderich on Sunday
after having been the guests of

Little Miss Barbara Mahar, who
has been spending the summer
with her grandparents, Dr. and
Mrs, W. J. Tillman, was rushed
tb St. Joseph's Hospital, London,
on Thursday evening for an em-
ergency appendectomy. -
Returns After 30 Years
Mrs, Maud Wright, Detroit, ac-
companied by the . following
members of her family, Gordon,
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Wright and
son, and Mrs. J. Mistrey -and son,
spent the weekend with her bro-
ther, L. H. MacLeod and family.
It is 30 years since Gordon has
visited Hayfield and he saw many
changes here.
Called Home by Death
Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Bod'ore,
and four children, and Mrs.
Weeks, Birmingham, Mich., who
were occupying the Metcalf cot-
tage, were called home, Friday,
owing to the death of a cousin,
Mr, Burns, who succum'be'dto
poliomyelitis in Ann Arbor. Mr.
and Mrs. Burns 'had spent some
time in Bayfield this summer
with Mr. and Mrs. Morrison.
Returns to Walkerville
Canon H. M. LangFord return-
ed to his ditties at St, Marys
Church, Walkerville, the begin-
ning of last week and Mrs. Lang -
Ford left the middle of the week
after having spent the summer at
their cottage. Mrs. Rance Brick-,
er and guest, Miss Claire La-
Flamme, returned to Kitchener
on Thursday evening.
School Reopens
The old school bell rang again
on Tuesday morning summoning
the pupils back to studies after
the long vacation. Miss Helen
Colbeck resumed her duties as
principal and Mrs. William E.
Parker as assistant for the year.
Cars Sideswipe
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Nelson,
Misses Judy and Diane Harper,
Dundas, were the guests of Mr.
and Mrs. Don Kingsbury over the
weekend. Coming into the vil-
lage. on the Main Street, oppos-
ite M.rs. J. Davison's residence,
a car driven by E. McClinchey,
Varna, sideswiped their car on
Saturday night. Damage to the
Nelson car was estimated at $250.
Croquet Tournament
The Annual Cropuet Tournam-
ent was held on the spacious
lawn at the summerliome of
Jim Day over the weekend with
eleven teams of 22 men compet-
ing for the cup donated' by M.
Aikenhead, London. Playing be-
gan at ten o'clock and ended at
eight -thirty. The play-offs were
held on Monday morning. Ray
Bauer and Jim Huck won the
cup 'and the consolation went to
Walter Hilton and Bill Bell, Sr.,
Pete Petrie and Fred Erb were
the runners-up in the final games
for the cup. If anyone Zthinks

ed •a stroke two months ago and
who is with another daughter,
Mrs. Owen Rackel in North
Battleford, Sask. They will also
visit Mrs. Adams' brother, Clif-
ford Lloyd of Maidstone, and
other friends at Pilot- Mound,
Man.

Injured in Fall
Mrs. Donald MacKenzie, Sr.,
met with an unfortunate accident
Monday evening, when she fell
outside the door at the home of
her sisters, Misses A. M. aria. E.
J. Stirling. The Misses Stirling
were out at the drvieway, bid-
ding farewell to their niece and
her husband, Dr. and Mrs. Har-
ley Mason and family, London,
who had spent the weekend with
them On their return to the
house, they found Mrs. MacKen-
zie lying on the ground. She had
cut her forehead and fractured
her right wrist in the fall. Mrs.
MacKenzie was taken to Seaforth
for medical attention and is now
recuperating at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. Sherlock Keyes,
Varna. Her many friends wish
Sunday next. Rev. S. H. Breit
ton having been called to an an-
niversary.

Hullett, near the Base Line,
which 'has been closed for sev-
eral years, has been re -opened
thisyear with 13 pupils, with
Miss Thompson,. Brumfield, as
teacher.
Teaching in Belleville
Miss Esther Jamieson, Toron-
for Belleville on Monday where
she will teach in Belleville Voca-
tional College. There are 200
students and 40 teachers. This
is Miss Tamblyn's first year as
a teacher. We wish her'success
in her chosen life work.
