The next match between these two teams—at the same place next Wdnesday evening, August 8, should be a humdinger, as these two are leading the group at the present time. The match ended on a bit of a sour note. All through the match, there had been a good deal of bickering with the umpires, Man- ager Doug Thorndike of Clinton, being thrown out of the game in the early stages by Umpire Eddie Dale, Clinton. Plate Umpire Harrison, Ripley, let the teams go into the ninth inning when Kincardine scored one to make the count 8-6 in their favour. Clinton gals came to bat and first thing you know, they had banged in two runs and had runners on third and second, with none out. Then, whot do you think hap- pened? The Kincardine manager shov- ed in another pitcher and took warm-up time—plenty of it as it turned out. Result was that dark- ness came on so fast, -Umpire Harrison called the game on ac- count of darkness, thus robbing Clinton of what appeared to be a sure win; one hit would have done it. They got away to a 7-2 lead in the first two frames and from then on, the issue never was in doubt. The hard-hitting Legionettes racked up no less than 17 safe hits, Delores Dale, Barbara Bran- don and Phyllis Mack getting three each. D. Dale had two triples and Phyllis Mack one. Jeanne Giron knocked out two homers and P. Mack one. Maxine Hunking fanned six of the Brussels gals, while only three of the Clinton lassies went down swinging.
