Clintonians Tie 8.8
Wth Kincardine
Banging across two runs, in the
last of the ninth inning, Clinton
Legionettes registered an 8-8 tie
with Kincardine Legionettes in a
WOAA ladies' softball match on
the RCAF softball diamond last
evening.
The next match between these
two teams—at the same place next
Wdnesday evening, August 8,
should be a humdinger, as these
two are leading the group at the
present time.
The match ended on a bit of a
sour note. All through the match,
there had been a good deal of
bickering with the umpires, Man-
ager Doug Thorndike of Clinton,
being thrown out of the game in
the early stages by Umpire Eddie
Dale, Clinton.
Plate Umpire Harrison, Ripley,
let the teams go into the ninth
inning when Kincardine scored
one to make the count 8-6 in their
favour.
Clinton gals came to bat and
first thing you know, they had
banged in two runs and had
runners on third and second, with
none out.
Then, whot do you think hap-
pened?
The Kincardine manager shov-
ed in another pitcher and took
warm-up time—plenty of it as it
turned out. Result was that dark-
ness came on so fast, -Umpire
Harrison called the game on ac-
count of darkness, thus robbing
Clinton of what appeared to be a
sure win; one hit would have
done it.
