Len 'Smith and Maxine and Miss Betty Lou Lar- son, London, were here over the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. W. Vanderburg and son Ronald, Brantford, spent last week at Gardner's cottage in Bailey Park. Edward Koenig, Kitchener, and Bayne Perrin, Ipperwash Cadet Camp, spent the weekend with Ronald Path. Johnston, Montreal, came on Sunday to spend 'a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Heard, 1V1r. and Mrs. J. B. Higgins and Jimmy motored to Haliburton for the weekend. Jimmy remained for a visit with his aunt. DR. D. B. Dr. John Lindsay, London, and daughter, Miss Helen Lindsay,. Kitchener, Mi. and Mrs. John Murray, St. Petersburg, Fla.,: and Misses Margaret and Georgina Murray, London, are spending two weeks at the former's cottage south of the village. A. W. Reid .and. son Bernard, Windsor, and Thomas James, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth James, Detroit, were with Mrs. Reid and Miss Kathleen at their cottage over the weekend.. Mrs. James who spent last week with them returned to Detroit with her husband. Mr. and Mrs. Ford Fisher, Tra- verse City, Mich„ spent the week- end • with the latter's aunt, Miss L. Morley. Their two children, Joan and Pat and Mrs. 'Fisher's mother, Mrs. K, Moore, who have been spending a vacation here, returned home with them. New arrivals at the Jowett cottages this week include: Mr. and Mrs, Clark Daly and family, Miss Mary Savage, London, Miss Marion Holmes and' Miss Whitely, Toronto, Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Blair and family, Detroit, Rev. and Mrs. Laverne Morgan and three children, Marine City, Mich, Mrs. Richard O'Connell and Regan returned to her cottage, "Fair Acres" last week after having visited her brother, Dr. Lloyd Hession and family in Lon- don ondon for a few days. Dr. and Mrs. Hession and three children, Rich- ard, Jane and Susanne had spent the previous weekend with Mrs. O'Connell. Mr. and Mrs. John Apfelbeck, Billy, Bobby and LindieMae, Rod- ney, were renewing acquaintances in the village on Tuesday. Mrs. W. R. Harshly, London, and Miss Kathleen McGill, To- ronto, are spending this week with Mrs. R. H. F. Gairdner. Rev. and Mrs. F. H. Paull were in London on Saturday attend- ing the funeral of the latter's uncle, Alfred Drew, Kingston. Mr. and Mrs. W. Gray and Miss Alta Gray, Detroit, are staying with Mrs. Robert Scotehmer while spending a vacation in the village. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wid- coinbe, and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Pye and small son, Windsor, are occupying one of the Jowett cot- tages. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Davison, De- troit, and Mr. and -Mrs. 'T. Mal- lett and family, London, spent the weekend with their mother, Mrs. Kate Davison. W. H. Shortt and Miss Lena Shortt, London, accompanied by Shortie, Cynthia, Bobby, and Pet- er, spent last week at the Churchward cottage. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ferguson and 'three children, Billie, Kathie, and Lenore, Sudbury, have been spending -a fortnight's vacation at their cabin on Colina Street. Mrs. Perry C. Hill returned to her home in Birmingham, Mich., on Saturday after having been the guest of Mrs. W. M. Purves at her cottage for a fortnight. Mr. and Mrs. James Donaldson, Goderich, and the former's niece and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Percy Lewis, Ottawa, called on friends in the village on Tuesday. Miss Lola Elliott, Detroit, is spending two weeks vacation with her mother, Mrs. Maria Elliott. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Miller, Mount Clemens, are also with her this week. Mr. and Mrs. Percy Parker, who have been visiting his mother end other relatives in this district, left on Sunday to visit in Sarnia and Cleveland before returning to their home in Nekona. N. Dek. Harold Wihittall, Amherstburg, and mother, Mrs. Whittall, Sr., Windsor, are spending this week with his wife and family at "Stonehaven:" Mr. and Mrs. Wil- liam Whittall, Windsor, were also here over the weekend. Mrs. Oliver M, Perry, Windsor, spent last week at The Little Inn. Her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and 1Vtrs. Michael Hastings-Trew, were here for the weekend and she accompanied them on their return to Windsor. Mrs. David Moffatt, Shoal Lake, Man., accompanied by her daugh- ter, Miss' Sophie Moffatt, Winni- peg, and her niece, Miss Mine Proctor, Loch Sloy, Winona, ar- rived on Tuesday to visit her sister, Mrs. George King, William L. Cameron, Detroit, is spending a fortnight's vacation with his sisters, Misses Elizabeth Mr. and •' Mrs Keith Leonard and; four children, Sonya, Linda, Cheryl and Mavis, Montreal, ar- rived on Monday with Mrs. Leon- ard's bather, E. A, Featherston, to spend a vacation with her parents. Mr, Featherston who is on vacation had motored to Mont- real for them and they had a most enjoyable trip through New York State. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Clark, Cleveland, spent the weekend. with Mr, and Mrs. Lloyd Scotch - mer. Miss Mary Lou Burt, who had visited them in Cleveland and gone to New York with Mr. and Mrs: Clark and Miss Roberta Clark while the former was at- tending a Shriners' Convention, and Roberta, remained for a longer visit, Trinity Church Guild, in con- junction with the ladies of St. John's Church, Varna, held a very successful bakesale and ba- zaar in Mrs, F. A. Edwards store on Saturday last. Correction In last week's issue we er- roneously reported the visit of Rev. Albert Pitts, Principal of St. Paul's Indian School, McLeod, Alta. This should have read: Rev. Douglas Pitts, St. Paul's Indian School, Cardston, Alta. Recent Bride Feted Tin honour of Miss Juan Bran- don, Bayfield, popular bride of last Saturday, Mrs. Reginald Francis entertained at a shower on Thursday afternoon. The pre- sentation took place in the rose arbor in the garden which was gaily decorated for the event. The bride-to-be ,graciously ack- nowledged the beautiful gifts from the many friends who attended. Several contests were enjoyed and a lunch was served and the guests joined in wishing Juan every happiness for the furure. Pleasant Picnic The staff of the Main Office Dominion Bank, London, of whom G. Churchward is a member, with their wives and friends held a picnic with Mr. and Mrs. G. Churchward at their cottage on Sunday. The following were present: J. Young, Mr. and Mrs. G. Ball and son Bradley, Mr. and Mrs. L. Garside and son Billy, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Corbett, John March, R. Ferguson, J. Furanne, S Johnson, Misses Theresa Mc- Laughlin, Betty Wise, Doris Mc- Bride, Mary Lavelle, Charlotte Wood, Rose Lloyd, Doreen Ire- land and Sharon Smith. Bride -elect Honoured Complimenting Miss Marie Stirling prior to her marriage, Mrs. John Lindsay, Mrs. Evelyn Beaton and Miss Phylliss Lind- say held a surprise party et the home of Mrs. Charles Bell on Tuesday evening of last week. The evening was spent in a con- test in which each guest was given a square of cheesecloth to blan- ket stitch and embroider if they desired. Miss Mane Denby won the prize for the best finished ar- ticle and Miss Joyce Bell whose work was unfinished at the close of the contest received a consola- tion prize, Miss Janet McLeod read an ad- dress and Mrs. John Lindsay and Phyllis Lindsay presented the bride-to-be with a basket con- taining a miscellaneous shower and the articles fashioned in the contest were given to her for dusters. Marie graciously acknow- ledged the beautiful gifts and those present responded by sing- ing: "For she's a jolly good fel- low." The hostesses served re- freshments at the close of a very happy evening. The Canadian National Exhib- ition is setting the stage for new attendance records this year, Aug, 24 to Sept. 8. Last year saw an all-time high total of 2,723,000 attendance, with 283,000 visitors in a single day et the world's largest annual exposition.
