PACE 'BEATING,
CENTRALIA RCAF
Clinton Chits kept pace with
the other teams inthe first ;div-
ision of the Huron -Perth Baseball
League by taking an easy 11-5
victory from Centralia RCAF at
Centralia Monday evening.
Len Johnson was given a chance
to show his wares, and after a
shaky first inning, he did a, good
job on the mound. Doug Bartliff
pitched the last inning.
Colts ganged up on the Air-
men in the first two stanzas and
ran up, a big lead, adding to the
sum :fatal in the seventh and
eighth frames. RCAF's splurge
in the last of the ninth netted
them two runs to out down Clin-
ton's, lead by that much.
Colts big batters were McEwan,
Draper and Maltby with three
each; Wilson two and Arkell and
Johnson one each. Wilson, Mc -
Ewan, Draper and Arkell all hit
three -base hits.

FORGES AHEAD
TO BEAT BLYTH

A large crowd was on hand
last Thursday night to see Lon-
desboro BA's gain a 9-5 victory
over Speiran's Dukes of Blyth in
a scheduled game in group 1
WOAA Intermediate "C" series
in .Londesboro.
The Dukes grabbed off the
lead in the, early stages of the
game but were unable to hold it
when the BA's got down to busi-
ness.
Carter end Taros shared the
pitching duties for Londesboro
while Tunney went all the way
for Blyth.

The great number of entries
in the annual Field Day of Clin-
ton Public School necessitated
that the events take place on
two days—Friday, June 8, and
Monday, June 11. Most of the
events were keenly contested.
Barbara Ford and Wayne Mc-
Gee were the girl and boy champ-
ions of the day, Barbara getting
42 points and the Chamber of
Commerce Trophy, and Wayne 33
points as well as the Clinton Lions
Club trophy.
Boys' Champions and runners-
up were: Senior boy: Arthur
Tyndall, 24, winner of the trophy
donated by F. Fingland, K.C.;
Bill German, 16; Terry Wood, 16;
Intermediate boy: Beverley Boyes,
32, winner of the trophy donated
by Charles Johnson; Frank Mac-
Donald, 21; Junior Boy: Wayne
McGee, 33, winner of the John
Hawkins Memorial Trophy; Ken-
neth Curnie, 27.
Girls' winners included: Senior
girl: Barbara Ford, 42, . winner of
the' trophy donated by Dr. J. W.
Shaw; Marie Lee and Pauline
Jervis, tied with 14 points each;
Intermediate girl: Gwen Grif-
fiths, 29, winner of the trophy
donated by G. H. Jefferson; Jun-
ior girl: Darlene Stanley, 22,
winner of the trophy donated
by Mrs. N. W. Trewartha; Nancy
Newton, 18.
"We extend to the Public
School Board, and to those citi-
zens who kindly donated silver
trophies, our sincere appreciation
for this interest in our school
activities," C. 'O. Martin, who
was in charge, stated. He also
expressed thanks to the teachers
and pupils and to Mr. Thorndike
who 'helped to make the ' 1951
Field Day a success.

The winner of the ladies' social
Jitney was Mrs. Marion Martin,
Nanaimo, B.C., who is spending
some time with her parents, Rev.
end Mrs. R. M. P. Bulteel.
This week's Jitney winners
were Mrs. B. Boyes, Mrs. G. W.
Nott, J. Innes and A. D. Mc-
Cartney.

Legionettes ' Lose,
And Draw in Pair
Clinton Legionettes have play-
ed two games in their WOAA
softball schedule losing the first
at Kincardine 13-7, but tieing the
econd here with Goderich 5-5.
Kincardine defeated Legionettes
at Kincardine 13-7 last week. It
was a very cold evening and not
conducive to good ball playing.
Kincardine returns to Clinton on
Monday evening, June 18. Bat-
teries: Clinton: M. and D. Hunk-
ing;.Kinoardine: Wilson and Mor-
land.
At this game, Jaick Nedilger
won a draw for a radio held on
the opening night in Kincardine.
Clinton: 7 runs, 9 hits, 4 errors;
Kincardine: 13 runs, 16 hits, 4
errors.
For the opening game in Clinton
on Thursday last, the Legion Pipe
Band was in attendance. Mayor
G. W. Nott pitched the first ball,.
with Hector Kingswell, president
of Clinton Branch of the Can-
adian Legion, as catcher and J.
E. "Cap" Cook at bat. Clinton
led till the last inning when
Goderich tied it up.
Goderich: Fuller and McKin-
non, McCabe; Clinton: M. Hunk-
ing and D. Hunking,
Goderich: 5. runs, 7 hits, 4 er-
rors; Clinton: 5 runs, 11 hits, 3
errors.
Bayfield Residglits
Have 'Close Call
(By our Bayfield correspondent
An accident, which could have
rseuited more seriously for two
Bayfield residents, occurred on
Tuesday afternoon about two
o'clock, when the automobile,
owned' end driven by Mrs. Char-
les Knuckey, proceeding north on
the fourth concession, Goderich
Township, hit loose gravel in the
vicinity of the Brick Schoolhouse,
south of the Huron Road.
The car swerved, turned over
on its side and righted itself
again, before being brought un-
der control.
Mrs. J. MacKenzie, the 'only
other occupant, sustained a cut
over her right eye, necessitating
four stitches to close the wound.
She was taken to Clinton Public
Hospital, suffering from bruises
and shock. She was able to re-
turn home on Wednesday.
Mrs. Knuckey also received
severe shaking up and bruises

in Port Albert Tuesday night.
