"DICK" ATKEY, editor of CLINTON NEWS RECORD, is seen receiving the trophy from Harry Archer of Fine Papers (London) Ltd., London, donor of the ;trophy, for catching the largest perch at the fourth annual newspapermen's perch[ derby, sponsored'. by Goderich Lions Club at Godleridh on Saturday. Son in the group are some of the 43 dally and weekly newspapermen and radio men who took pant in the derby. Clarence Cooper of The NEWS -RECORD placed second; a London Free Press man was third; and a Kitchener -Waterloo Record man was fourth. Others in the picture include Laurie C'olquhoun and G. E, Hall, also of The NEWS -RECORD. Legion Sponsoring Two Ladies' Teams Clinton Branch Canadian Leg- ion, again is sponsoring a ladies' softball team this year, and al- ready considerable interest has been shown, both by the girls in the numbers that have been turn- ing out to practices, end by spec- tators. New Uniforms New uniforms -blue with white -have been ordered for the Int- ermediate team. Practices have been held at the. Public School when between 25 and 30 have been turning out, trying for the team. With this number inter- ested, it has been decided to enter a Junior team as well as an Intermediate. Groupings Groupings include: Interened- iete-Goderioh, Blyth, Brussels, Kincardine, Glamis and Clinton; Junior -Brussels, Lucknow, God- erich and Clinton, Pat Humphries, Murray Madsen and Sam Castle have been shar- ing the coaching duties, while Doug Thorndike is managing the team. If the number of spectators who have been at the practices is any indication, the girls should have a good following throughout the season: If anyone knows of any girl who is interested in this sport, he or she is asked to have that girl come to the practices or contact Mrs. S.
