Local Girl
Wins Honour
Queen of Ball
Mils Catherine ("Kit") Ping -
land, only daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Frank Prngland, Clinton, re-
ceived the high honour of being
crowned "Queen of the Ball" at
London Normal School Friday
evening last.
Here's how The London Free
Press tells about it:
Not every girl is crowned a
queen. And not every queen
manages to be brunette, blue-
eyed—and 21.
For a young teacher -to -be, Kit
Fingland; Clinton, (these came true
(last night as students of the
London Normal School crowned
her Queen of the Ball.
Six Finalists
An initial roster of 12 students
had competed for the title, and
Kit had placed among six fin'al-
istls . Even Kit didn't know
about her approaching "royalty"
until just before the trumpets
began to announce :etre corona-
tion
Then she could only gasp and
say "What do I do now."
Accompanied by her escort,
Harry Knapper, Windsor, also a
student at the school, she ascend-
ed the stairs to the purple -draped
throne erected by her subjects on
the landing of the central stair-
way. Here she received the sym-
bol of ter royalty from Bob Mc-
Intosh, Windsor, president of
student government, as 400 stu-
dents and friends attending the
"Normal Nocturne," bowed in
homage.
Leader in Sports
She is a leader in sports at the
school, anti a star of the basket-
ball team,
Among gifts bestowed upon 'her
by London merchants were a
studio, portrait, a permanent, a
cook book, a bouquet of roses,
a perfume kit and a collection of
theatre passes. Her escort was
given a shirt.
Official duties crowded close
upon Kit's coronation, as she was
called upon to present .a gift of
perfume to the student who had
named the dance, Theresa Oulette,
Windsor.
Runners-up for the title were
Joanne Bain, Thamesville; Jeanne
Clark, Windsor; Agnes Mellon,
London; Velma Smith, Guelph,
and Pat Williams, Londbn,
Catherine attended Clinton
District Collegiate Institute and
graduated from Alma College,
St. Thomas, in 1950.

Its tight, positive joints protect the
line from root growths.
Long 10 -ft. lengths mean fewer
joints in the line.
