HURON FRUIT
GROWERS ELECT
OLD EXECUTIVE
The livesvise members of Huron
County Fruit Growers' Associa-
tion held their annual meeting
and banquet in Clinton Thursday
last, when the retiring officers
were re-elected for another year
as follows;
President, Thomas Salkeld,
Lucknow; vice-presidents, George
Johnston, H.R..2, Bayfield; Fred
Middleton, R.R. 3, Clinton; sec-
retary -treasurer, R. G. Bennett,
Clinton, agricultural representa-
tive for Huron County,
At the business session, Clay-
ton Laithwaite, Goderich Town-
ship, suggested that fruit grow-
ers investigate the possibility of
joining forces with vegetable
growers in the county, -to create
a larger and stronger organiza-
tion which could produce better
results than two smaller groups
could do.
Past President J. W. Joynt,
Lucknow, agreed.
A turkey dinner was held in
Hotel Clinton at the noon hour,
with a number of special guests
in attendance.
F/I; C. L. Harding, chaplain of
RCAF Station, Clinton, outlined
the duties of an RCAF chaplain.
Indifference to religious matters
in young men entering the air
force can usuelly be traced, he
observed', to indifference in the
homes front which they have
come.
"I feel cyte can. not .allow a
Young man of 18 or 20," he said,
"to just drift along because his
parents were indifferent to re-
ligious matters.
"If any of you have eons who
might happen to be called up for
service," he said, "you will know
that their spiritual needs will be
taken care of to the very best
of our ability.
.'We have to make them real-
ize," he noted, "that they are in
an organization that can not
molly -coddle thean. They have
to grow up, and for some of them
it's a pretty hard way to grow up,
You have to talk to these boys
sometimes, because there are a
of of things they don't know.
There ere a lot of them who don't
know things their parents should
have told ,them, --so we have to
tell them."
Mrs. William McGuire, Hay-
field, made the presentation of a
special gift to Dr. J. W. Shaw,
Clinton, to mark .his many years
of _;associationwith the Fruit
Growers Association.
Community singing was led by
Gordon Bennett, with Mrs, Mc-
Guire as pianist.
