Clinton News-Record, 1951-02-22, Page 3THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 1951 CLINTON NEWS -RECORD PAGE; THREE meet's Chat A Woman's. Viewpoint on This and That By MBA DURING the past week, the dread "flux', which has hitso many parts of the country, has reached Clinton, and many are suffering with it ... The foggy, damp and rainy weather of the Pest days hes not helped .the situation end as a result, all over southwestern Ontario, where this weather has been prevalent, fin has been on the increase Several organizations have can- celled meetings during the past few • days , , * 5 5 CLINTON Public School seems to have been hard-hit .. Three teachers out of ten - and the janitor as well - have been off duty due to feta and Prineipai George ' H. Jefferson estimates that at least 40 per Gent of the pupils are out . . The smallest youngsters -up to grade five- seem to have suffered the most, about half being (absent from school . . The school had a half -holiday Monday morning on account of lack of heat , * ,i. * CLINTON District Collegiate Institute hae felt the flu to some extent but not very seriously .. . A few pupils have been absent , but .no teachers . . It seems to be just a series of colds , , r * * WE always read with much interest the annual library re poet . The figures on mem- bership end circulation are such that Clintoneans should be mighty ' " l proud of its library , .. It's a fine asset .to the towrn , .. In compar- ing the figures with those of the Goderich library, a town twice the size of Clinton, we find that Goderich have 1,136 borrowers and Clinton has 1,044, with 248 new members during the past year . Goderich citizens mead 24,674 books last year, whale total circulation in Clinton was 21,596 .. Not a bad comperison is it? Proportionately, either Olin- tonians are more ardent readers, or else our library offers more to the town --that's the only con- clusion we came to in comparing the figures of the two libraries . Ik speaks well for our local Board and Librarian, who db much to give an excellent service to the town .
