RCAF FLYERS
ELIMINATED
FROM ' WOAA
(By Sgt. E. etaternick)
RCAF 'Clinton Flyers bowed
out of WOAA playoff, competi-
tion when they dropped the first
two genres' se a best -of -three
series .to : Listowel,
The. first was a bruising game
in which three of our players had
to proceed to hospital to be
stitched up from cuts received
from high 'sticks. Perret sub-
stituting. for Alexander" in goal
was hit bya flying puck and
had to be stitched up as wen.
Listowel went on to win the game
9-4 to take a one -game lead in
the series.
The second game, played at
Listowel on Thursday, February
8, was a ;thriller, and a tough
one to lose. The referees ruled
with a firm hand and it turned
into one of ;the best games played.
Our Flyers had trouble in get-
ting organized for the first two
periods, and were trailing 10-3
at the end of the second. They
came to life' in the third, how-
ever, and tied the score at 10-10
and, went ahead 11-10 only to
have a flukey goal roll in off a
players back to give Listowel a
tie et 11-11. Then a penalty to
our team with two minutes to
go gave Listowel an opportunity
to go ahead 12-11 and hold on
to take the game and the series.
Our boys played hard, and had
they been able to hold that goal
lead,y the series might have gone
the other way in a third end
deciding game.
There were no individual stars;
all played well. The first line
of Scarrow, Goodhue and Godley
with McLean alternating, came
through with the most scoring,
but the second line ch:ectied welL1
a n d Wingfield came through
with four goals. The defence
played well and Perret in goal`
pleyed outstandingly considering
it was only his second game of
the season.
The whole team deserves credit
for their effort in representing
the Station in WOAA competi-
tion, and it is only regretted
that they could not have gone a
little further in the play-offs.
