CLINTON NEWS -RECORD
Colts . Lead, Loop
With Two Straight
(By BSA)
With two victories in as many
starts, Glintan Cols are now
standing on top of the district.'
OHA Intermediate "B" heap.
Full of hope, Mitchell Legion-
emrieis, guided by Bert White of
Clinton yesteryear, ,blew irtto
town Saturday evening': last, but
on toward midnight, Left remem-
bering a 9-4 tag,
Then on Monday, Bert Glid-
den's young athletes travelled
down Luean way to do battle
with Centralia RCAF. Result was
very similar; 9-4 for the Colts.
With the addition of one or.
two players -one of them Graham
' Jenkins of the CDCI staff -Colts
look to be in there fighting. De-
feat of New Hamburg by Sea. -
forth proved a surprise but the
Burgers may be stronger when
they hit Clinton this Saturday
evening.
Good Crowd on Hand
The Saturday game got start-
ed at 9 p.m. with a good crowd
on hand, and it looks as if Sat-
urday night games may prove
popular. Already, several mer-
chants have dedided to close
their places of business at 9 p.m.,
and the style may spread. The
new seating on the east side of
Lions Arena proved a great boon
to the spectators and larger
crowds -especially of the weaker
sex -may result.
In the early stages, the visit-
ors seemed to have the edge in
play, but later on in the match,
C,,olts seemed to find a gaping
weakness in the Mitchell defence
and goal zone, and tallied almost
at will. "Izzzy" Powel, formerly
of Colts, was Mitchell's best at-
tacker, end formed a fair line
with Weber and Gateby.

CLINTON FLYERS
LOSE BY 15-10
TO WINGHAM
(By Sgt. Ed Yaternick)
Saturday night, the RCAF
Clinton Flyers . journeyed to
Wingham for a WOAA hockey
contest in Wingham Arena and
were outscored 15-10 in n wide
open, and the fastest sleeting
hockey game of the season.
From the opening whistle, play
was wide open, neither team
paying too much attention to
defensive play.
Wingham, led by Norm Tas
tin, former NHL professional.
hockey player, opened the scor-
ing at the three minute mark..
From there on scoring was fast,
not many scoring opportunities
missed. Berard tied it up a min-
ute later for the Flyers.
Wingham went on to a 4-1 lead
on goals by Crewson, Temple-
man and Lockridge. Oui• Flyers
fought back to 4-3 on goals by
Godley and Cantin, only to have
Wingliam go ahead again 5-3 by
the end of the first period.
The second period, scoring see-
sawed back and forth between
both teams, Benard opening,
Wingfield coming up with two
goals and Diduck with one to
edge up to 7-6 score for Wing -
ham at the end of the second
period.
The third period, the lid came
off as far as. scoring, with a total
of 12 goals being scored. Penalties
hurt our Flyers team, two con-
secutive penalties gave Wing -
ham a chance to swing the game,
even though our team managed
to score three goals while short-
handed. It did take the steam
out of their attack and had dif-
ficulty in getting rolling again.
A few breaks earlier in the
game, such as McLean hitting the
goal post in the first period
Which would have tied the score
at 4-4, Goodhue being slowed
with his sore leg, might have
changed the compexion of the
game.
Our second line of Wingfield,
Didugk and Benard name up with
the brunt of the scoring, with
Wingfield coming up with the
het trick of three goals, Benard
and Cantin with two each, single-
tons going to Diduck, Scarrow
and Godley.
Standout performances also go
to Scarrow up front with his
incessant forechecking, and Mel-
anson on defense for his fine play
in breaking up numerous attacks.
Luckhart, playing his first game
of the season in goal, had little
protection and was rather ner-
vous, but should improve greatly.
