RCAF FLYERS W: R. Parke Heads
TAKE OPENER Hensall Hockey Club
FROM LUCKNOW
'(By an. RCAF Reporter)
RCAF Clinton Flyers took their
opening game in the WOAA series
by a decisive score of 15-5 against
luckless Lucknow at Seaforth
Tuesday. evening. The score
does not indicate a true picture
of the game, as It was not •until
the third period that our team
found itself and overpowered the
Lucknow team. The game was
fast and yery clean with only
two penalties handed out, one to
each team.
The first period started off fast
with both teams playing wide-
open hockey. Scoring chances
were missed by both teams with
the line of Scarrow, Goodhue,
Godley all around thenet but
were only able to wine up with
one goal. Lucknow opened the
scoring at the 13.40 mark, but
the score was tied a minute later
on a goal by Beehler. The period
ended at 1-1 tie score.
In the second period scoring
opened up with both teams cap-
italizing on their chances around
the net. The Station team went
ahead 2-1 only to have Lucknow
come back with three fast goals
to make it 4-2. Then our boys
roared back for four goals to one
more for Lucknow to make it
6-5 in our favor at the end of
the second period.
The third period opened with
the Flyers, though shorthanded,
playing two lines to three-.. for
Lucknow, really flying. Nine goals
were scored, without a reply
from Lucknow to make it 15-5
in our favor.
Diduck really showed his earl'
season scoring, eye when he scor-
ed a total of five goals. Goodhue
also came out with a standout
performance although handicap-
ped with a charley -horse suffered
in the second period, scoring
four. Other scorers were Soar -
row and Beehler with two each,
and Wingfield and Godley with
one each.
All players played a standout
game, but a little encouragement
is needed. A very disappointing
crowd attended. Those attending
witnessed a real first class
game.

Hog Problems
Apparently, Western farmers
are putting pressure on the Fed-
eral Government and particularly
on. Agricultural Minister Gard-
iner to have the U.S. border open-
ed for the free shipment of hogs
to United States and likewise from
there to Canada., This is not in
line with the policy of our On-
tario producers and we are going'
to have to speak up or we may.
find our hog prices lower instead
of higher.
If such a thing would happen,
we would find our choice bacon
and hams going to the wealthy
American rnarket while their fat
shoulder cuts and side pork would
be shipped over here for us to
eat.

B. W. Tuckey Elected
Exeter's First Mayor
Benson W. Tuckey, a former
Reeve, bename Exeter's first
mayor as the community moved
into the second half of the cen-

His majority was 205 over A. J.
Sweitzer, reeve in 1950.
The changeover' in municipal
status passed 'quietly in Exeter.
The fact that on December 31 it
was a village and on January 1
a town seemed not to cause a
ripple. The only celebration was
the unusually large turnout at
the polls.
