nowledging three bales of cloth-
ing which had been sent to To-
ronto for the Canadian Church
Relief Abroad. An invitation to
attend an open Christmas meet-
ing of the Mission Band on Mon-
day afternoon was received and
accepted. The offering was re-
ceived and Mrs. W. Murch took
charge of the propramme.

candle -lighting and carol service,
assisted by Mrs. A. Haddy, Mrs.
W. Jervis, Mrs. la B. Pennebalter,
Mrs. F. Fingland, Mrs. J. Sutter,
Miss M. A. Stone read the Scrip-
ture story and Mrs. Ream read
a poem "Messiah's Day.” Mrs.
Murch led in prayer, As the high-
light of the meeting, Mrs. Nor-
man Hallend told a Christmas
story, "Abigail wants a ring," a
story of a pioneer minister and
his family on a circuit in the
far north,
Mrs. M. Addison, in a few
well-chosen words expressed the
regret of the members at the
resignation of the president,
Mrs. Hearn, and moved a vote of
appreciation of her work during
the past three years.

and together they gave two splen-
did piano and man numbers,
"The Shepherds and the Angels"
and "Chimes at Yuletide," The
Heralds of the service, singing
"It Crane Upon the Midnight

met with the president, Mrs. C.
Vernier, in the chair; the meet-
ing opened bysinging hymn 50,
and reading psalm 750 alternat-
ely', and the Lord's Prayer in
unison, Mrs. Maltby taking the
devotional period, opening with
a hymn and taking as her sub-
ject: "Thoughts of Christmas and
Kingship of Christ," closing with
prayer and another hymn..
Various reports were given, and
the callers for the various wards
named, and the roll call was
given. A reading was given by
Miss L, Grant, conducting it in
her hie porous way, and -Mrs. N.
Carter cores-aribnted a solo which
was much enjoyed,
Rev. W. J. Woolfrey :then took
over for the election of officers.

ladies' double trio, consisting of
Margaret Holland, Marion And-
rews, Mary Sutter, Doris Grier-
son, Jean Neeliger and Ruth Wil-
son, who sang "Ring out Sweet
Bells of Christmas", and a solo
"Nazareth" by Eileen Robbins.
An effective candle -lighting
service was conducted by Harvey
Sperling, Elimville, president of
Huron Presbytery Y.P.U„ assist-
ed by Miss Isabel Chowen, presi-
dent of the local union Follow-
ing the recessional hymn the
vesper was sung by a ladies'
quaartette comprising Mary Sut-
ter, Margaret Holland, Agnes
Moon and Jean Nediger,
Couple Are Honoured
Prior to Departure
The executive of "Youth for
Christ" met at the home of'Mrs
George Haines, Blyth, for a social
and farewell, evening, honouring
W01 and Mrs. R. T. Gemmell,
who_ have beentransferred to
Ottawa, leaving for their new
home the early part of January,
The programme for the even-
ing was in charge of Frank Col-
lar, consisting of a sing -song,
duetts, solos, quizzes, end a cox -
net solo by Eric Gemmell.
Mr. and Mrs. Gemmell were
presented with a lovely. Kenwood
blanket as a little token of love
from the many friendsthey have
made since coming to Clinton two
years ago.

Presbyterian Men
Make Needed Repairs
The Presbyterian Men's Club
meeting held before' Christmas
was attended by a goodly num-
ber, with Sam Castle, the presi-
dent, in the chair for the busi-
ness, and Water. Newcombe ' at
the secretary's table
It was reported that favourable
comments were the order of the
day concerning the recent show-
ing of "Second Chance." The
Club decided to show a special
children's film at the Sunday
School entertainment on Tuesday
evening, Dec. 19.
The programme of group cap- •
tarn Al Sharp and his cohorts,
converged into a working party
in which the whole club proceed-
ed to repair the chairs in need
of renovation and made a com-
plete clean-up of the job.
Lunch was provided for the
hungry workers by G. W. Nott,
Dick Carter, Al Sharp, A. Wilson
and Frank MacDonald w i th
sandwiches and cakes which were
consumed with great vigour.
