ing a clergy conference of the

Mrs. J. H. Cobb returned to
Toronto last wek after having
spent the summer at her cabin
in the village.
Mr. and Mrs.' Spencer Ervine
and Mary Elizabeth spent last
weekend in Southampton with
Mrs. Ervine's parents.
Mr. .and Mrs. A. H. Ahrens.
returned to Detroit last week
after having occupied their cot-
tage, "Trail Blazer", for a week.
Mr. and Mrs. J. Keen, Strat-
ford, are occupying "Trail Blaz-
er" cottage for the winter. Mrs.
Keen is a sister of Mrs. Ben
Rathweil. We hid them welcome
to the village.
Donald Kingsbury, Hamilton,
was home over the weekend. Ac-
companying him were Mrs.
Kingsbury's brother and wife,
Mr. and Mrs. David Nelson, Dun-
das,, who were their guests over
the holiday.
Mrs. Lloyd Westlake came on
Friday evening to spend the
weekend with her parents. Mr.
and Mrs. Malcolm Toms. Police
Constable Westlake joined his
wife on Sunday end they returned
to Mount Forest that evening.
William Heard and Mr. and Mrs.
Russell Heard visited Mr. and
Mrs. Delbert Haw and family,
Proton Station, over the week-
end. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Heard
and two children, Lorna and
Douglas, Stratford, were also
their guests.
Making • Good Progress
The many friends of Mrs. J.
H. Parker, wno underwent a
major operation in Clinton Pub-.
lie Hospital on Thursday last,)will
be glad to know that she is Mak-
ing good progress towards re-
covery.
United Church Women Meet
The United Church women met
on Thursday last at the home
of Mrs. Ivan Steckle, with an
excellent attendance, The WMS
decided to sponsor a "used cloth-
ing" collection for the Overseas
Relief project arid donations may
be left at the home of Mrs. Rob-
ert. Scotchmer any time during
this month. The WA had in-
vested in a shipment of "bleach-
ed hags" and these were 'either
sold to those present or distribut-
ed to be made into articles for
sale. The hostesses for the day,
Mrs. Steckle, Mrs. A. Dunn, Mrs.
Makins, Miss Stirling, Mrs. Peck,
and Mrs. Porter, served a tasty
lunch at the close.
Trinity Club Meets
The Trinity Club met on Tues-
day of last week at the home t of
Mrs. Orlo Miller. Mrs. Maynard
Corrie presided and the minutes
of the last meeting were read by
jjfiss Berthene Sturgeon. It was
decided to hold a pot luck sup-
per. Mrs. Harry Everett gave a
most interesting and amusing
talk on "Housekeeping in China."
She displayed beautiful articles
of clothing, native bead work
and other craft. She explained
that the needle workers do very
fine intricate work until they
are about 25 years of age and
then their eyesight becomes im-
paired. The native servants were
quick to wait on white men but
slow in attending to the wants
of the lady of the house, she
found from experience. -'In a
great many eases they would steal
from their employers and sell the
articles on the black market. She
had missed things from her home
and actually saw them displayed
for sale on the black market but
when she appealed to the police,

.1950. Eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mac McLeod, Clinton,
the bride was formerly Marie Phyllis McLeod, and the groom
is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Simon, London. They will
reside in London.

.Sympathy Extended
The funeral of Mrs. George
Ginn was held in the Holmesville
United. Church on Monday and
was very largely attended. The
sympathy of this community is
extended to the bereaved family
at this time.
Bride -elect Feted
Miss Bea Finnigan and Miss
Margaret Moore entertained
Monday evening, November 13,
at the home of Mrs. Alex Boyes,
Tuckersmith, in honor of Miss
Phyllis Pretty, bride -elect of this
week. During the evening games
and contests were enjoyed. ' The
hostesses presented the bride-to-
be with a large ndnuber of pretty
and useful gifts prior to her com-
ing marriage on Saturday, No-
vember 18. A delicious lunch was
served and a social hour spent.
About 40 women were present.
Ladies' Club Meets
Tuckersmith Ladies' Club held
its monthly meeting on Wednes-
day, Nov. 8, at the home of Mrs.
Norris Sillery with a fair at-
tendance. After the usual open-
ing proceedings, the roll call was
answered with "the maiden name
of your mother-in-law." Several
business items were discussed,
the main one being the auction
sale of quilts, sewing, baking and
other miscellaneous articles to
be held in S.S. No. 4 school on
the evening of Nov. 24. A social
evening to follow. Everybody
welcome.
The slate of officers for 1951
Stock, and Mr. Newton led in
prayer. A. very interesting topic
was given by Dewar Norman.
Busines conducted by Kathleen
Holmes, president, included a re-
nal by Kenneth Trewartha on
work done by the play committee
in procuring a three -act play.
Song books for the group were
ordered. The next meeting will
be held in the church basement
on Monday evening and will be
directed by the culture committee.
The gathering enjoyed contests
directed by Alex Glen, and sang
Auld Lang Syne before dispersing.
WMS and WA Meet
The WMS and WA November
meetings were held Tuesday at
Mrs. 5, Walter's home, Mrs. Ewan
Ross prepared the missionary
program, with Mrs. Newton lead-
ing in prayer and Mrs. K, Tre-
wartha reading the Scripture.
Others contributing readings were
Mrs. P. Palmer. Mrs. C. Freeman,
Mrs. C. Wilson, Mrs. N. Heard
and Mrs. Ii, Cudmore, The Study
Book chapter was taken by Mrs,
Ross.
' YPU Meeting
The YPU meeting field Monday
evening at the home of Mr. and
Mrs, Kenneth Trewartha was well
attnded, and was in charge of the
citizenship convener, Alex Glen.
The Scripture was read by Betty
During the WA meeting, con-
ducted by the president, Mrs. W.
Norman, Mrs. Walter gave the
bazaar financial, report showing
gross receipts of $183.94. Upon
Mrs. Newton's suggestion It was
Moved and agreed upon that a,
committee be appointed to pre-
pare a slate of officers for the
annual election of officers. Mrs.
B. Trewartha, Mrs. W. Yeo and
Mrs. E. Grigg were elected as
the committee. The WMS also
named them as the committee to
prepare a slate of officers for its
election.
At the conclusion of the busi-
ness discussion an appetizing
lunch was served by the host-
esses, Mrs. Walter and Mrs.
Cudmore.

SEAFORTH--The resignation
of Fire Chief D'Orlean Sills was
accepted at the regular meeting
of council. Fire Chief Sills is a
veteran of the Second 'World War
and served as a fireman before
and since the war. ife was ap-
pointed fire chief two years ago.
