Dalton) Folks after some Weeks of considerations, making organiza- tional plans and a general straightening out of deterrents to progress 'here we are. The committee 'composed of the PRO, Assistant PRO, Sgt. ".Alex" Alexander, Mayor W. G. .Fulton, Councillors F. A, Mc- Kellar, A. M. McKenzie, 1), 'R. Adams, Mrs. C. A, Mason; Corres- pondent Mrs,H. M, Miller, and numerous advisers following meet- ings with Mr. Richmond Atkey, :Editor; of The CLINTON NEWS - RECORD, are pleased to announce that henceforth our news will be, a weekly feature in succeeding issues of this paper. • Through the medium of this page, we should soon be acquainted with our neighbors in Adastral Park and be more aware of station events: Equallyimportant is the fact that the opportunity to know and appreciate the friendly townsmen of Clinton. and neighboring -communities is enhanced. Mrs. Hugh M. Miller, 13 Victoria Blvd., Mrs, C. A. Mason. 6 Toronto Blvd. and Billy Burbank, 4 Victoria Blvd., are the two ' correspondents and the distributor for Adastral iPerk. Living -in personnel please make personal news items available to them. Station correspondents should range from the Commanding Officer, W/C R. F. Miller, AFC, down to AC2 I. M. A. Prune (son of P/O Prune, that i , these contributions being made available :to the PRO _and Assistant PRO. To be successful we require the cooperation and support' of every section and person connected With RCAF Clinton. Whenthe mood strikes and you find yourselves writing poetry, travelogues, biographies, and other articles which you do not 'see in this first issue but which should prove of interest, then support our venture by supplying this material for following issue,. It is : now believed that everyone has the idea. Follow it up .and keep us moving with those contributions, useful suggestions, and sincere qualified criticisms. o . 'a Q Continued Co-operation. Sought (By W/C R. T. Miller, AFC, Commanding Officer) • Completion of Adastral Park has satisfied, to a greet extent, an urgent housing problem. The people of Clinton, Seaford', ode- -rich and other .vicinities, who have been Seaford',G so kind in supplying acdommodation for RCAF personnel, sometimes at `great incon- venience to themselves, will be pleased as we are to see these families now self-contained. This, of course, refers only to per- sonnel on staff, The ever -existent problem of accommodation for -those who are posted to this unit on courses, still is a burden. ' A sincere spirit of fellowship" and cooperation between service and civilian population in any area is necessary for the well- being of all. This spirit does exist in the Clinton area, and it 'is expected that it will be fostered. Certainly, ,now that many staff ,.personnel are settled in Adastral Park, the intention is not to retire into a shell" and forget our neighbors add community ob- ligations. Rather, the opportunity is now greater to work together on any undertaking. Clinton RCAF personnel are 'urged to cooperate in the interests of the service and the furthering of our good relations with the neighboring townsfolk., ps4 ITS 'FRAGRANCE 0 IS SEALED IN VACUUM Adastral Park Mayor and; Councillors. Fulton) In common with every self- respecting community, Adastral Park-. has a council to preside over its future. The present council has been in office for so short a time that even 'some Adastral Park residents are un- aware of its existence, a state of affairs that we hasten to correct. A very valuable member of the council is Mrs. C. A. Mason, for- merly of Toronto. Mrs. Mason has the dubious honour of be- ing married to one Flight Serg- eant Mason who will be remem- bered fox his role of AC2ea Me - Wheelbase in a pest variety con- cert. 'Mrs. Mason's determination to rise above her marital' handi- cap has led both to her present position on the council and to that of secretary of the Station Badminton Club. Her manager- ial experience as mother of two lively girls and the stamina which won her medals for life-saving and fancy swimming will greatly benefit Adastral Park. The great farming country of Alberta contributes WO2 F. A. Children's Hollowe'en Party Successful A mammoth .children's Hal- lowe'en party for the benefit of the younger generation of RCAF e so p i anal and civilians 'employed on the Station, was held in ce >, "Roundel Terrace" Tuesdayeven- ing, v n e e - ing, October 31, with more than 225 children and adults in at- tendance. The party was in the capable hands of F/S G _Craig, a member of the Station Entertain- ment Committee, assisted by the Officer's Wives' Auxiliary. A programme of games were arranged by the teachers, Mr. Trott, Mrs. Chambers and Miss Clark, Following the games re- freshments consisting of ice cream sundaes, chocolate milk and cookies were served, Before the party broke up at approximately 8.15 p.m. the children were given Hallowe'en handouts consisting of apples, peanuts, candy, kisses and a balloon. The party proved to be, a very colourful "spectacle both for the children and the adults as well, What you save is the most important pad of what you earn Here is another opportunity for you to adopt •this tried and tested'system of saving money. A great factor contributing to the future success of the council will be Mr .Me- Kellar's perseverance in the face of adversity, brilliantly exemp- lified by 'his continued attempts in the Bowling League to score more than sixty. Toronto supplies a second coun- cilman in the person of Flight Sergeant A. M. McKenzie, who is enjoying his second term in office, which fact speaks well of his past council record. A good, clean -living, redblooded`Canad- ian boy, F/S McKenzie was voted "student, least likely to succeed" by his classmates at Toronto's Riverdale High.. Station Hallowe'en Dance Draws 600 • Following the Children's Hal- lowe'en party Tuesday evening, October 31, a gala Station Hal- lowe'en n dance was held with Jack Fowler Orchestra st from Toronto in attendance. Roundel Terrace was very gaily decorated in real Hallowe'en style with F/S C. A. Mason in charge of the decora- tions. Lady escorts for single per- sonnel were supplied by the YWCA, London, with S/L Wade and Sgt. H'effel in charge of the arrangements, the latter going slightly grey headed awaiting the arrival of the buses from London. 'The dance was well attended with approximately 600 'personnel dressed in costumes from the ridiculous to the sublime. Prizes for the two most original costumes were won by Mr, and Mrs. H. C. Lawson, Clinton, dres- sed as "Cave Man" and "Cave Woman". The Second prize was 'won by, F/S and Mrs, Q. H:•J'ack- son, dressed as "Tarzan and Mate." Judges for the various costumes were W/C' Miller, SIT, Norris, WO2 Darbey and LAC Webber. Later, during the evening, a draw for four $50 Savings Bonds was made by the, wife of the Commanding Officer, Mrs. R. F. Miller. The lucky winners were Sgt. D. J. Nichols, LAC R.. L. Faulkner, F/C E. 3, Snelling and Sgt. W. A. Smith. o' RCAF Sports on Next Page. Evolution Outlined . Of • Adastral: Park.. One gifted . with the use of words might liken the' event to the emerging of a butterfly from the cocoon, or perhaps , write loftily of the birth -p ngs of a long-awaited infant dr of the descent' of manna on a house - hungry • people. . We refer of course to the evolution of the Permanent Married Quarters at the RCAF Radar and Comrnunica- tiohs School. Adastral Park was begun in the latter part of 1948. Today, it allows many signs • of what it is. eventually to be: an orderly com- munity with well -kept houses and lawns, good roads, and a fine community spirit. To acquaint our friends in Clinton with Adastral Park we will present some typical ques- tions and their answers. Q How large is the com- munity? A.—At present there are 145 homes, with 139 occupied. Q.—Why are clotheslines strung at the front of each house? A. The lines are not at . the front but at the back of each house. Contrary to custom, the back of each house faces on the road. This arrangement facili- tates garbage removal, deliveries, and so on. It also presents a more pleasant view to those who like to sit on front porches. Q.—May residents have visit- ors to their homes without inter- ference from the Station author- ities? A,—Yes. No restrictions other than those of proper behaviour are placed on visitors to Adast- ral 'Park, Visitors may not, of course, enter through the Sta- tion proper but may enter -through the entrance on the county road —the road bounding the Station on the south. Q. I suppose many residents will be subletting rooms? A, No. Such practice is strict- ly forbidden. Q. Are schools provided for the children? A.—Yes. At present, three teachers teach all public school grades in improvised classrooms. A regular school house is now abuilding. Q, --Has a municipal govern- ment been set up? A.—Yes. It consists of a mayor, three councihnen and one councilwoman. It functions as an advisory council to the Com- manding Officer and as an av- enue of complaint for Adastral Park residents. religious life fostered in Adastral Park for both Protestants and Roman Catholics is planned. At the moment, temporary chapels are doing spartan service. The young attend Sunday School and after - A. Most certainly. A chapel noon catechism classes. Q, What entertainment is pro- vided for the community? A.—Adastral Park residents ', may, of course, attend all Station functions, may use the gymnasium and swimming pool, and may pat- ronize their various messes and canteens. For the children there are school activities, the Boy Scouts, and the Wolf. Cubs. An' outdoor rink and a playground are planned, Q.—' -How soon will , Adastral Park be completed in all details? A.—Yes!!!!! We hope the above description will entice our Clinton friends to inspect our budding community at first hand. ' The welcome mat is always out! RCAF PERSONALS Cpl. E. M.
