New Rector' Takes Over °
Rev. Herbert J. E. Webb as-
sumed charge of the parish of
Trinity, Hayfield, St. James,
Middleton, and St. John's Church,
Varna, on Sunday last. At Trin-
ity Church service on Sunday
evening., he impressed those pres-
ent in an informal address in
which he expressed the hope
that the parishioners would bear
with him if he spoke of the
Peace River sometimes. Sixteen
of • his 20 years of ministry were',
spent there end the work was
very dear to him. Here, every-
thing was strange and different
but he hoped that he would get
along well. First impressions, he
said, were usually lasting and he
felt that he would love the..,
church and the people of Bayfield.',
Welcome to Bayfield:
Mrs, H, J. E. Webb and two
children, Frances and George,
who spent the weekend with
Rev. and Mrs. T. Dale Jones,
Seaforth, joined Rev, Mr. Webb
on Monday end ere getting set-
tled. We welcome them to our
midst.
Orange Banquet Held
The WA of St. Andrews' United
Church catered for the LOL No.
24 banquet on Friday evening.
About a hundred members and
their wives sat down to a turkey
dinner in the church parlours.
The table decorations were car-
ried out in the colours of the
Orange Order. Short addresses
were given by Rev. Peter Ren-
ner, Pastor of St. Andrew's
Church and the Worshipful
Master, J. Cornish. This was
followed by a dance in the Town
Hall for the members, their fam-
ilies and friends at which the'
Armstrong Orchestra played.
The Annual Hallowe'en Mas-
querade party, given under the
auspices 6f Hayfield Lions Club
with Grant Turner, chairman of
the Boys and Girls Committee,
and his cabable assistants, in
charge, was held in the Town
Hall.
It was a whirl of delight from
beginning to end, and was by far
the best masquerade, the best
dressed and the most picturesque
gathering ever held here. The
grand march was a most inter-
esting sight, and gave a glitter-
ing Kaleidiscopic scene as the
many colored costumes of the
children wound in anis out, be-
fore the many assembled spec-
tators,
The costumes were so varied
and original this year, there
were soldiers, tramps, devils,
fairies, BoPeeps, scarecrows,
clowns, Dominoes, gypsies, Ind-
ians, a Miss Canada with red
maple leaves and even Old Dutch
Cleanser.
There was a pantonine, called
Sally Anne, read by Mrs. Ted
Davies, and acted by Joanne
MacLeod, Orlo Millet' and Jack
Fraser,
There were movies, that child-
ren love, candy for all and a red
apple too as they left the hall.
The difficult job of judging the
winners was given to Harry Nes-
bit,' Mrs. R. Abercrombie and
Mrs. D. Ross and resulted in the
following:
A special prize for the winzzer+
of the First prizes, was awarded
to Jimmie Higgins who portray-
