DIVINE SERVICE
Clinton Lions Troop of Soy
Scouts and the Wolf Cub Pack
attended divine service in Wes-
ley -Willis United Church Sunday
evening, October 30,2 when their
chaplain, Rev. H, C. Wilson, de-
livered an inspirational address.
A, large ' congregation was in at-
tendance.
Choirleeder A. R. Persan led a
sacred singsong, 'assisted by Mrs.
W. M. Nediger, with Miss Viola
Fraser et the piano; F/O W. J.
P. Robertson read the lesson
from John 15: 1-6 and Psalm I,
Mrs. W. M. Nediger favoured
with a solo, and a quartette con-
sisting of Misses Margaret Hol-
land and Jean Nediger, and mes-
dames Mary Sutter and Agnes
Moon, sang "Holy, Holy, Holy,
Lord God of Hosts."
Rev. Mr. Wilson extended a
very cordial welcome to all the
visitors, and more particularly _ to
the Boy Scouts and Cubs. He
considered it a great honour to
be the "padre."
Discussing trees, the minister
declared that a good men's life
is very like a tree. One part,
the foliage, you can see, while
the other, the roots, you cannot
see although the roots are very
necessary for the tree's exist-
ence. They find moisture and
sustenance in the ground.
The first root is called "obed-
ience" --doing our duty, accept -
'ng the ,ways of people who are
wiser than we are. "The obed-
ent boy is a happier boy," he
averred. '
The second root is trust -doing
the right thing, whether or not
anyone is watching. "We want
people for friends whom he can
trust."
The third root is prayer -
really active friendship with God.
"Unless you have this root of
prayer, some day a high wind
will come along and your life
won't be strong enough to stand
'n an upright position."
The three things to remember
were obedience, trust and pray-
er, the minister emphasized.
Quoting from Romans 11 :16, he
said: "If the roots be holy, the
branches will also be holy."
