Church observed its 73rd anni-
versary on Sunday, Oct. 22, when
the church was filled to capacity
in the morning, and a large
crowd attended -in the evening
when the other churches closed.
Dr. R. T. Richards, London, was
guest preacher.

morning service, October 22,
when the newly induoted min-
ister, Rev, Charles Scott, form-
erly of Nova Scotia, was the
preacher. Gwendolyn June, in-

Henry, infant son of Mr. and
Mrs. Harry Gibbons, were bap-

Rev. Reba, Hern, Varna, gave
an inspirational address last'week
to the Barbara Kirkman Auxili-
iary of First Presbyterian Church,
Seaforth. Her topic was, "The
soul that on Jesus hath' leaned
for repose." Miss Hero's earnest-
ness made an impression on her
audience.

Attends WI Convention
Miss Amelia. McIlwain attend-
ed the Area Convention of the
Women's Institute which was
held at Hotel London this week.
Newlyweds Feted,
A reception was held in the
Foresters' Hall on. Friday night
in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Keith
Meehan.
During the evening the hon-
oured couple were presented with
a purse of money bbvv Ross Pat-
terson and the address was read
by Miss June Beadle. Music for
dancing was supplied by talent
from Clinton. Lunch including
wedding cake was served.
Successful Bazaar
The WMS of Knox United
Church had a successful bazaar
and tea in the Sunday School
room on Saturday. The tables
of fancy work, baking, produce
and candy were well patronized;
also „the "Pick my pocket" and
the tea tables, The Mission Band
had a fish pond and also sold
Christmas cards. Proceeds of
bazaar amounted to $90 and the
Mission Band realized $10.
MISS .ANNIE WEIR

Miss Annie Weir passed away
in Alexandra Hospital, Goderich,
on Saturday morning, October. 21,
following a short illness.
Miss Weir was a daughter of
the late Mr. and Mrs. John Weir
and was born in St. Marys 86
years ago.
For the last 60 years she has
been a resident of Strathroy and
for the last four years she had
lived with her brother, Dr. B. C.
Weir. About two years ago she
lostt her eyesight but despite this
handicap she was very cheerful.
She was a member of the Pres-
byterian Church, Strathroy.
She is survived by a brother,
Dr. B .C. Weir; a nephew, John
R. 'Weir, Ottawa; and a niece,
Mrs. D. A. MacKey, Kintail,
The funeral was held from the
Denning Funeral Home, Strath-
roy, on Tuesday, October 24. and
was conducted by Rev. S.M. Scott,
pastor of Strathroy Presbyterian
Church.
Kippen WMS Meets
'Mrs. R. M. Peck was hostess
to the Woman's Missionary. So-
ciety of St. Andrew's United
Church, Kippen. President Mrs.
Winston Workman was in the
chair. Taking part were Mrs.
Allan Johnson, Mrs. Emerson
Kyle, Mrs. E. Jarrott, Mrs. John
Anderson and Miss Grace Tre-
mere.
An invitation was accepted
from Varna Auxiliary to' be
guests of Kippen society at their
annual birthday party.
Mrs. A. E. Hinton reported for
the visiting committee. Mrs. E.
McBride and Mrs. R. Dalrymple
were appointed flower commit-
tee for the church for Novem-
ber, nominating committee ap-
pointed to bring in the slate of
officers are Mrs. A. E. Hinton,
Mrs. R. M. Peck and Mrs. W.
Workman.
Mrs. W. Alexander and Mrs.
Hinton presented a report on
the sectional meeting they at-
tended at Grand Bend.
The study, "The United Church
re-enters. Japan through re-in-
forcements" was presented by
Mrs. R. Edgar. Mrs. R. Elgie
presented the treasurer's report;
Miss Helen Love played piano
solos, and Mrs, Hinton gave read-
ings. Prgoram committee for the
birthday party will be Mrs. T.
Key, Mrs. Emerson Anderson
and Mrs. Emerson Kyle, Lunch-
eon was served.

on a careless driifing charge.
A pickup truck driven by
