Brown, Petrolia, and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Willert end family, Sarnia, spent Sunday with the former's sister, Mrs. William Shaddock. Mr. and Mrs. George Nuttall, Winnipeg, Man., brother-in-law and sister of W. S. Macaulay, visited last week at the home of Mrs. William Shaddock, Mr. and Mrs. Harold M. Dur - nM, Spooner, Wis., are spending a vacation with the former's brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Douglas G. Ball, John S. Parker and his mother' and sister have taken up resi- dence in the. Saunders and son, Wallace, Yarmouth, N.S., were recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon W. Cuninghame at "J.K.J.", their lakeside home in Bayfield. Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Macaulay left for their home in Gose Bay, Labrador, on Tuesday, after visiting the latter's mother end sister, Mrs. William Shaddock and Miss Anne. Mr. and Mrs. W. Adams, Brenda and Billie, who have been spend- ing the summer with Mrs. Adams' parents, Mr. and Mrs. A, E. Frem- lin, left on Thursday for their home in Winnipeg. Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Hanes and family have returned to Ottawa after visiting the lady's parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Lockwood, Mrs. Hanes and children had been vacationing here for a month, Royce S. Macaulay of Ball - Macaulay, retuned yesterday af- ter attending the National Coun- cil of the Retail Lumber Dealers' Association of Canada at the Prince Edward Hotel, Windsor. Mrs. E. W. Colquhoun and three sons, Murray, Tommy and Hughie, left Monday by train for Calgary, Alta., where they will reside. Mr. Colqu'houn has been in Calgary for some years. Mrs. Nellie Crawford has re- turned to her home in. Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., after visiting with Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Charlesworth and other relatives in Clinton, Goderich Township and Goderich. Mrs. A, P. Crowley and two children, Kenneth and Lorna, sailed from Quebec City on the "Franconia" lest week for their home lin England after being residents of Clinton for more than a year. B. Campbell, Mill St., on Wed- nesday evening lest. The gifts, many and very use- ful, were presented to the bride - elect in a gaily decorated um- brella, and a very enjoyable°time was spent by all watohing Miss Taylor undo her gifts. The hostess, assisted by Misses Helen Dixon end Mary }India, served dainty refreshments which rounded out a very pleasant evening. • -----o-- Wesley-Willis WA Plans "Country Fair" The September meeting of the Woman's Association of Wesley- Willig Church was held in the' Parlour on the afternoon of September 7. The president, Mrs. George Beattie, was in the chair, Mrs. Charlesworth was pianist. The opening hymn was "Come, Holy Spirit, Come," followed by the Lord's Prayer in unison. The subject of the devotional period was "The Kingdom of God." Mrs. Frank Andrews read the Scripture lesson from Matthew, chapter 13; Mrs. A. T. Cooper gave "Lesson, Thoughts," and Mrs. Charlesworth offered pray- er. The minutes of the last meet- ing were read by Mrs. William Murch, who also acted as treas- urer in the absence of secretary and treasurer, Mrs. Fred Gatien's report of the. Flower Committee was given, and Mrs. Cliff Cooper read the letters of thanks for flowers gent to those who had been ill. Mrs. Will Pickard re- ported for the manse committee. Mrs. Matt. Nediger was appointed recording secretary to take Mrs. Wilbur Martin's place as the let- ter, had resigned. Some plans were made for the "Country , Fair," which takes place on October 28. A hymn and the Mizpeh Benediction brought the meeting to a close, after which afternoon tea was served by Mrs. William Murch's group. Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Atkey have returned from a pleasant vacation spent in Toronto, Ottawa, Mont- real end Quebec City. While in Ottawa they were the guests of Major and Mrs. Gordon Longman. Mr, and Mrs. Wesley Haddy who have been residing in Lon- don, have taken up residence on Princess St., Mr. Haddy having been appointed to the Bell Tele- phone Co. repair department here. Mr. and Mrs. R. P, Robbins and son, Ronald, who have been residing in Crediton have return- ed to Clinton, and for the time being will be with the lady's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John A. Sutter. Flt. -Lt. and Mrs. G. G. Agnew and baby daughter, Barbara, Greenwood, N.S., formerly of Clinton, arrived in town last night and are visiting Flt. -Lt. and Mrs. J, H. Lynch and other friends. Mr. and Mrs, Wilfred Shaw, Dresden, Miss Irene Wright, Rimbey, Alta,, Mr. and Mrs. Nor- man Clyde, Chatham, and Mrs. (Rev.) C. W. Cope, Goderich, spent Tuesday with Mr. and Mrs A. J, McMurray. Word has been received of the death of Lewis Thrower, beloved husband of Maud Fremlin. Mr. end Mrs. Thrower left Clinton about 40 years ago, purchasing a farm in' Avonlea, Sask., where they since have resided. Mr. and Mrs. George Bayley, Mrs. Fergus McKay, and Mrs. Charles Kennington, St. Thomas, formerly of Clinton, were in Chatham on Saturday attending the Lawson-I3ablcirk wedding, the bride being a niece of Mr. and Mrs. Bayley. Rev. and Mrs. Hugh C, Wilson and Miss Ruth have returned from their vacation spent et Tobermory, John Wilson has joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and is at present receiving his preliminary train- ing at Ottawa. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Ellwood spent the holiday weekend in Fergus with their son and daugh- ter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ellwood. They went down to at- tend the funeral of their grand- daughter, Wendy Jane, who pas- sed away suddenly in Groves Memorial Hospital, on Friday, September 1. Mr. and .Mrs. Donald Syrno}is have returned from their vaca- tion at Delhi and Turkey Point. On Labor Day weekend, accomp- anied by Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Aiken, London, they called on Mr. and Mrs. George Murdock and Mr, and Mrs, Gordon Hearn who were holidaying at the Mur- dock summer home near Port Dover. Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Jacob have returned after attending the con- vention of the Association of Managers and Matrons of Ontario Homes for the Aged and the opening of a new Home in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. Mr. Jacob was elected the new president. It is expected that the 1951 conven- tion will be held at the Sunset Hotel, Goderich. Miss Ida Walkinshaw has left for en extenaed trip to Calgary, Alta., and later will go on , to Vancouver, B.C. Prior to her departure, a number of friends and neighbours called to say farewell and express their good wishes for a pleasant trip, Al- though taken by surprise, Miss Walkinshaw expressed her ap- preciation for the thoughtfulness and gifts, A dainty lunch was served by the guests. Those wishing to goare asked 'to contact either the presi- dent or the secretary:` Plans were made and a num- ber of lovely donations were re- ceived for the annual bazaar which will be held on Saturday, October 14. During the evening three new' members were initiated into the organization, these being Mrs. J. E. Dale, Mrs, George Knights and Mrs. Murray Quaife. • Local' Delegates Attend Presbylterial The annual meeting of the Huron Presbyterial of -the Wom- en's Missionary Society of the Presbyterian Church was held in St. Andrew's Church, Blyth, on Tuesday, September 12. Representing Clinton Society were. Mrs. C. Clifton, Mrs. Ro- bert Scott, Mrs. Ed Gibson, Mrs. Allan Maxwell, and Mrs. D. J. Lane, Mrs. Reid, Toronto, a member of the Provincial Executive, was the guest speaker. There was a fine attendance from all sections of the Pres- bytery and all reports were in- spiring and encouraging. C THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 1950 Ontario St. WA Enjoys, Meeting The WA of Ontario St. United Church met en Tuesday, Septem- ber 5, in the Church Hall with Mrs, C. Vernier in the chair. The meeting opened with the, singing of a hymn and reading psalm 732 responsively, and the Lord's Prayer repeated In unison. The devotional period was taken by Mrs. Maltby opening with a hymn. Mrs. 37faltby took as her subject "The Kingdom of God and Faith"' and also offered prayer, and another hymn was sung. The minutes of the last meet- ing and the roll call were given by Mrs. F. Townsend, Various reports were then given, and' business discussed.. Mrs: E. Redford favoured the ladies with two instrumentals, Mrs. D. Symons gave a pleasing solo, and Mrs. C. Stewart con- tributed a humorous reading, all of which were greatly enjoyed. The meeting closed with the singing of a hymn and the Miz- nab Benediction after which the ladeis of the Base Line and 16th concession served a lovely lunch. Engagements Announced Mr. and Mrs. N. W.
