Elliott and family. Eleanor Yeo is attending the 'United Church girls' camp on Lake Huron, a few miles beyond. Goderich. She will return home on August 20. Mr. and 4Vlrs. Lawson Wood- ©ack, who have been holidaying with Mrs. Woodcock's parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Bond, left on Tuesday of last week for King :ston, where Mr. Woodcock is stationed. Mrs. M. Elliott and her child- ren motored down from Listowel and spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Trewartha and Mr. and Mrs. W. Norman. Murray and Ross Elliott remained to visit for a few days. Aid. and Mrs. C. H. Johnston, 'Brandon, Man., while attending the Clinton Reunion festivities, visited with Mr. Johnston's bro- ther, W. H. Johnston and Mrs. 'Johnston, for several days. They returned to Brandon on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Johnston, accompanied by Aid. and Mrs. Johnston and Mrs. Mabel Cox, Clinton, visited last week with Mr. and Mrs. James Grassick and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wildfong and family, Exeter, and with Mrs. Max Fritzley, Goderich. Guests at the homes of Mr. and Mrs. E. Grigg and Mr. and -Mrs. L. Bond recently were their cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Tortonecoi, 'Detroit. Other visitors were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Potter for the weekend, and Mr. and Mrs. Wes Holland, Ricky and Valerie, 'Clinton. Lands - borough entertained at a family dinner on Saturday, August 5, in honour of two newly -married couples—Mr. and Mrs. J. Foster Gibbings, Kindersley, Sask., and Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Townsend, Macklin, Sask. Mr. and Mrs. Gib- bings" (nee Edith Townsend, Nokomis, Sask.) were married in Saskatoon on July 31. Mr. and Mrs. Townsend (nee Louise Koshorek, Beechey, Sask.) were married in Swift Current on June 30. Other weekend guest's included• Mr. and. Mrs. Bert Jervis and Paul, Toronto, and Mr. and Mrs. Walter McDowell, Galt. Miss Helen Jervis, Toronto, spent the past weekend with Mr. and Mrs. W. D. WMS and WA Meet ' The August meetings of the WMS and WA were held last Thursday in the Sunday School rooms of the United Church. The WMS meeting In charge of Mrs. Edward Grigg was based on the World Convention on Christian Education held in Toronto,.,Aug- ust 10-16, with the same theme, "Jesus Christ, Teacher a n d Lord," Mrs. Grigg opened the meeting with a reading, and of- fered prayer. Mrs. W. Yeo read the scripture. Readings were con- tributed by Mrs. Jack Yeo, Mrs. H. Cudmore, and Mrs. W. Norman. Mrs. Heard gave a paper on Christian Stewardship. Molly Finlay one on temperance. The solo, `Fairest Lord Jesus," was beautifully sung by Molly Finlay. They had as their guests, mem- bers of the WMS and of the Baby Band and their mothers. Altogether there were over 80 present. Members of the Mission Band under the direction of their leader, Mrs. Arland Johnston, presented a program, those tak- ing part being: Duetts, Jack and Billy Dallas and Jean and Cath- erine McGregor' violin solo by George Ross; solo, Ronny John- ston; reading, Ina Naylor and recitation by, Janet Henderson. Sports winners, were: children three and under; Keith Taylor, Bobby Jenkins; five and under, Gloria Jenkins, Helen Broadfoot; girls seven and under, Jean Broadfoot. This was the first game in a two out of three series. Bride -elect Feted Mrs. R. Petzke and Miss Edna Petzke were hostesses at 'their home Monday evening, July 17, for a presentation !for Miss Dorothy MacMillan, bride -elect of this week. The home was at- tractive with streamers of pink and white, varied coloured bal- loons, and baskets of red roses; Dorothy was the recipient of many lovely gifts including an electric coffee percolator, electric tea kettle, silver cream and sugar and tray, silverware,• dishes and linens. The highlight of the affair was a mock wedding; bride portrayed by Miss Pearl McLeod, groom, Miss Audrey Walsh; minister, Miss "Illen Bell; soloist, Mrs. Maude `Iedden. A musical quiz was conducted with Miss Gladys Luker at the piano. A recreational period was conducted by Mrs. Glenn Deitz. Miss Audrey Walsh and Miss Marlene Petzke favour- ed with a piano duett. The president, Mrs. Austin Harris, was in charge of the meeting. The various re- ports were read and the roll call answered by a pickle recipe. It was decided to have a sale of home-made baking and farm produce in Bayfield on Saturday, August 26. The meeting closed with a hymn. The afternoon was spent quilting. New Fire Equipment Bought at Goderich At a special meeting, Goderich Town Council authorized the purchase of new fire equipment at a total cost of $10,754. A ten- year debenture issue of $10,000 was authorized to cover the cost of this equipment. The new equipment will consist of a Bickle-Seagrave triple com- bination fire pumper with three - stage centrifugal fire pump, with- out chassis, costing $8,378. The tender of Reg. McGee and Sons to supply a three -ton Dodge fire truck for $2,376 was accepted. At the regular monthly meet- ing of the board of Tuckersmith School Area ` No. 1, a decision was areed upon to repair several schools in the area. Tenders were to be called to replace a defective gravity fur- nace at S.S. No. 7, by an oil burning air-conditioned furnace. S. S. No. 9 will have a new hardwood floor.
