"MORT" BEZEAU
CLINTONNATIVE
MAKES HIS MARK
The NEWS -RECORD is in-
debted to The Kitchener
Waterloo Record for the fol-
lowing article regarding H.
Mortimer Bezeau, Jr., son of
C. Mortimer Bezeau, a former
well, known resident of Clin-
ton now living in Kitchener
and frequent contributor to
this paper. Heading of the
article is "Mort's Shirts are
Famous Too; Rana the Biggest
Giveaway Show in Town."
By Bill Cockatoo
"H. Mortimer Bezeau, Jr.,
Kitchener shirt manufacturer,
runs the biggest giveaway show
in town. He pours hundreds of
dollars into his hobbies so, he can
give them to his friends for fun
or to organizations which `can't
"Best known of his public
charities is his public address
system. Not only did he offer
it for the soap box derby but he
went to a lot of trouble to get
the sponsors to use it free of
charge; Then he set it up the
night before the race so it would
he ready for the first heat in
the morning.
"The same public address sys-
tem carried a shot -by -shot de-
scription of the army games at
Plattsville two weeks ago. It car-
ried the opening fastball game
of the season, the cadet inspec-
tion and
nspec-tion'and the Manitoba FloodRe-
lief Fund program at the Lyric
Theatre.
"Its program this month in-
cludes Boy Scout and Wolf Cub
field days, the cadets' closing
dance of the season last night

and various golf tournaments
throughout the summer. '
"11lort, Jr., with 1,200 records
valued at about $1,000, is one of
Carl Heinitzmen's better custo-
mers. This is due partlyto the
fact that, the Helntzman sidore
lies in the path of Mort's route
to his office in the Dunker
Building and his resistance to a
bar—record bar, that is—is weak.
"The benevolent Bezeau was
born in Clinton December 21,
1899, and came here with his
family at the age of seven. After
Collegiate he apprenticed as a
printer's devil on the Berlin
Daily Telegraph,
"In 1916 he, started with the
W. G. and R. Shirt Cb., which
became Cluett Peabody. He mov-

in 1929 and when its made -to -

separated, he went to 'the Dunker
Building to manage the made -to -
Measure business now known as
the Mansfield Shirt Co.
"He is its vice-president. Its
president is his father"', C. Morti-
mer Bezeau, one-time mayor of
Kitchener and still The Record's
most regular contributor to the
Letters to the, Editor column.
"Mort. Jr., • has his father's gray
hair and soft voice. He has two
brothers in Kitchener and sisters
in Lethbridge and Holmesville.
"His home and office are verit-
able storehouses for his boxes of
cameras and radio equipment.
His employees, both office and
factory, enjoy music from his
radios and record players. He
also has one of those new-fangled
cameras with which he can take
your picture and hand it to you
a minute later.
"A sports fan, he' has been
treasurer of the Kitchener Fast-
ball Club and the K -W Flying
Dutchmen.
• "He married Phyllis Thomp-
son of Tillsonburg in 1927..They
have a daughter "Jerry" at Mut-
ual' Life and a son, Robert, at
the Collegiate.
"Something of an individualist,
the bountiful Bezeau puts the
torch to his quiet • nature with
loud shirts . which sometimes
startle. An example is a recent
patch -work job of sundry bright
colors and cloths whitish chal-
lenges its existence with a mono-
gramed question, "So what"?"
