Miss Barbara Oliver, Clinton, has been holidaying for several days with her friends, Misses Ila ehd Dawn Grigg. Mr: and Mrs. Kenneth Lang-. ford, Walter and Donald, visited this week with Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Trewartha. Mr. and Mrs. W. Johnston have as guests this week Mr, John- ston's niece, Margaret Wildfong, and her friend, Ruth Kleinfeldt, Exeter. Miss Eileen Gliddon was home from Toronto to spend the week- end witfi her parents. Miss Marie Gliddon, London, also spent the remaining four days cf her holi- days at her home last week. Family Gathering Held A family get-together was held Sunday 'afternoon on the lawn of Mrs. J. B. MaoMath, the guests including 'Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Collier and Sandra, Exeter; Mr. and Mrs. D. 11, Rutherford, Ingersoll; Mr. and Mrs, W. D. Armstrong, Bayfield; and lifts -an. Mrs. Ewan Ross and John. HolniesVille. Mission Band Picnic The IVlisaiou Band held its an- nual picnic on Friday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ewan Ross, with Mrs, Harry Curimore and Mrs, Ninian Heard assisting with the activities. A programme of sports was run off first, and among the many . winners, Helen Potter and Victor Corran cnunt- ed up the most .points, with Franklin Yeo, Mary Hutchins and. Jack Norman as runners-up. Games werethen conducted by the games committee. Helen and Kenneth Potter, Doris Hutchins and Jacob Grayd'anus, The lunch committee, Sandra Williams Jack. Norman!, Ila Grigg. and, Helen Potter, served refreshments high- lighted by quantities of orange drink prepared by Mrs. F. Yeo, and ice cream cones. There will be no Mission Band meeting un- til early in September, (Too late for last week) Mr, and Mrs. Wallace Avery spent a week with friends in Detroit. Miss Mayme Swan has returned from Toronto where she spent the weekend. Rev. David • Wren, Stratford, occupied the pulpit in United Church on Sunday. Next Sunday Rev. G,' F N. Atkinson, Wards- ville, will be in charge of the service. Community Club: Meets Porter's Hill. Connnunity Club met, at the borne of Mrs. Jim Cox on Wednesday last with the presi- dent, Mrs, George Colclough, in charge of the meeting. The roll call was answered by the paying of a one dollar fee In place of having the annual baking sale. It was decided to have a com- rnunity picnic at the school grounds on Tuesday evening, August 1. Everyone is welcome sand all are asked to bring' a picnic Iunch. The afternoon was spent in quilting. Mr. and Mrs. F. 'Mulholland visited with friends at Mitchell on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs, Bolton,, Colborne Township„ visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Williams, Mrs. Moss, Waterloo, visited her mother, Mrs. Elford; and aunt, Mrs. Walter, on Tuesday. Miss S. Acheson is still a pa- tient in Clinton Public Hospital but is able to enjoy the visits of her many friends.' Mrs. W Jervis went on Mon- day to stay with her 'mother, Mrs. Walters, who is convalescing at her home, Benmiller. Mr. and Mrs. Allen Parks and little son, Wayne, Trenton, were guests with- Mr. and Mrs. L. Jervis over a recent weekend. , Franklin Heinz, New Hamburg, visited last week with his grand- parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. Nor- man, and with other relatives in the village. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Cox, Clinton, on the arrival of their baby son, Brian John, in Clinton Public Hospital recently. Mr. and Mrs. N. Heard, ac- companied by Mr. and Mrs. E. Heard and Mrs. Howard, Bay- field, attended the Orange Walk at Harriston on July 12. The July meetings of the two societies were held on Tuesday, July 11, at the home of Mrs. W. Norman, Mrs, C. Freeman was in charge of the WMS worship period which included readings. by Mrs, E. Trewartha and Mrs. Heard, a duet contributed by Sia Grigg and Helen Bond, and the study book taken by Mrs. Heard. The scripture was read by Reta Yeo. Mrs. Freeman on behalf of the society, welcomed Mrs. New- ton into the organization, The WA meeting, with Mrs. Norman presiding, dealt briefly with items of business, following its opening exercises.
